Ryo from All Stars racing

Postby Master Kyodai » Fri Feb 26, 2010 7:05 pm

The model was surprisingly easy to rip. I had a bad feeling throwing all stars racing into 3D ripper coz i thought back of my terrible experiences with Avatar - The game, but Ryo was directly a flawless rip. The wheels came without spokes, but maybe its a technical thing. The motorcycle detail and textures were surprisingly crappy and not really suitable for a close-up. So is ryos jacket, besides the tiger patch it seems to be of worse quality than the dreamcast texture - and that one was already quite low res for 1999.

Well overall Ryo doesn't look too bad besides his jacket (imho) and the general impression is "acceptable".

I havent found a tool to extract the "Xpac" archives, but they just seem to be a collection of flat files, so maybe imma make a tool for it. Is there some "blind" RIFF/WAVE ripper that just extracts all wave files from a random file?

I could also bitch about the drawbacks of a UV-mapped model, but oh well...

imma make one, in the meanwhile - here's sonic. Sonics eyes look a bit stupid because i made them. Dunno why but he came without eyes which looked even more stupid. Took the freedom to pimp some materials a bit.

Looks good I was hoping to get this on Thursday via steam , but It was bumped back to 2nd March, Im gonna fully rig this rip.

what do you mean by drawbacks of a UV-mapped model? I always thought the fact that the rips were already uvmapped was a great thing

Well the drawback is that it makes it harder to edit the materials for UV mapped stuff. For example on Ryos Jacket you can't adjust the material without affecting the rest as well as it's all one big UV map. I'm rather a fan of seperate materials. Of course its better than like without textures, but a shame i can't make the jacket a bit shinier while making the jeans a bit more dull.

Im still learning about UVs in max , personally I would make a copy of the Ryo object and turn the jacket into a seperate object and copy and rename the texture file for the jacket , so then you can add shine to that texture file.

That would be awesome! If you do can you please share the model? I'm too dumb to do it myself in max and in Vue you can't split objects.

I'd love to make his shoes and jacket a bit more shiny and his jeans a bit more dull. His T-SHirt also deserves a slightly better texture.

Seperating him isnt a problem, If you can upload the 3DR(not 3ds) and dds textures somewhere, I can do it for you, or you can wait a few days till I get the game, up to you.
