Mapinfo patcher

Did anyone ever use the mapinfo patcher by White Shadow?

I think you can use it to swap maps, but I'm not sure how to use it properly. The instructions are kinda vague if you don't really know where to start. SOunds like you basically just swap two maps, but why not just rename the files? I assume this simply wont work?
