that person is me (notice the links in my sig)
i'm waiting for a better ripper right now to continue my work, because 3dripper dx can only extract a small portion of the map(except in some cases), i'm also trying to learn the locomotion system in unity for 3rd person viewing, other members made some amazing work on that, but they didn't want to share it with me. :dunno:

Are you still on with this project? If you allow me I would love to be on this project. According to me there is still no game out there as good as Shenmue.

I have experience with unity, so I know how to handle the engine quite well. And I think Unity would be the best bet. CryEngine sure would look a lot better, but it´s so much harder to reprogram the engine so that it works for a game like Shenmue. Than we would have to change the source code of CryEngine for it to work. So as I just said I think Unity is the best bet. However for Unity to use any good kind of light you´ll need the pro version of the engine.

So back to my first questions is this project still on?

I think using ripper is not a good idea because of the final quality of a picture
we need to use it only for references maybe, and make all models and draw all textures from scratch

a former member(dinojan) modeled yamanose and sakuragaoka in softimage, would be nice if we had a xsi user to complete his work.

That opensource project seems like a really good idea imo, all though we need someone to overview the project in case someone tries to sabotage it (this is the internet after all) i'm willing to help, i have a little experience in animating and modeling, i dont know anything about unity though

How about starting with something small like finding a way to put an area from shenmue online and allow people to explore it and throw in a chat system?

Edit: by shenmue online i dont mean the game "shenmue online" lol but put extracts from shenmue 2 on an online server

No problem, i can add some basic animations also if you want, but it will take a few days as im waiting on my new hard drive though
