Shenmue Beta Debug Flags

Postby shengoro86 » Fri Jul 18, 2014 9:58 am

Hi everyone,

While speaking with Giorgio, we came up with the idea of making an initiative of deciphering what each debug flag off/on switch does. There are more than a 1000 of them.

Some just control notebook entries and some do much more.

I am creating this thread to house that initiative.

If you want to join, please do. The more people work on it... the faster it gets done!

To activate the menu:

Load debug Shenmue with a controller in port 1 and port 4.
Port 4 controls the menu. I forget what button u have to press to activate it. (Maybe START? on port 4)

Yes it's the start button and you cycle through the menus with the L and R triggers. If you want to be uber correct, it's actually controller port A and D (that's how they are labeled on the DC).

Anyway, I'd really like to know what all these flags do. I never noticed that they change things in the game.
I thought they were some sort of markers for the debuggers, so they can easily point out when and where in the game the stumbled upon something unusual. Defintaley looking forward to see what extra features this holds!

You can consider the flags as binary yes/no markers.

Example: Flag XX Did Ryo name the cat?
Then a chain of variables change with that on/off switch.

So you can actually skip events entirely with this or does it just affect the notebook entries?

Yes you can skip events.

One day I started a new game and when I got out to Yamanose the first time, I activated all 1000+ flags and never had to see the cat scene or the old lady either.

So maybe, the flags tell the game engine "yes he did this" which is why u also get the notebook update.

BUMP.

Lets continue this project.

Some of these flags are interesting.

Also, I am in the process of figuring out how to make my own flags perform custom events.

BUMP.

Due to the lack of interest, I will work on this alongside Giorgio without updating any future progress in this thread.

Please close.

Thanks!

Hmmm pretty interesting. I have codes of GD3 to fight with Chai in the last battle, one to do forklift racing and another one to start the 70 man battle. The last one is useless because if you start the 3rd GD and you press L or R in the menu, you can access to the time attack mode.

All these are tested in the SCENE 03. That means you need the GD3.

MEND - Last Fight with Chai and ending
MA00 - First working day of Ryo and forklift racing
MFTB - Entry 99 - Scene 03 - 70 man battle

Awesome!

I believe MF80 or MK80 will give you the cutscene with Guizhang right before, when u fight him.

I have tried a lot of scenes but I will have to download all the other GD. There are many scenes 00 or 80 that wont open nothing in 3rd GD. 01, 02, 03 and 04 are suposed to be from GD1, 2, 3 and 4.
