Changing in-game text?

Postby Jackie Harris » Sat May 23, 2015 2:15 pm

Does anyone know of a way to make on-the-spot changes to in-game text in Shenmue, in the same way you can change textures with Texmod/uMod? I know there are translation tools available but I expect this requires the disc contents to be dumped, edited, then recompiled. Just wondering if there's a simpler way to make temporary changes to the text? :-k

Use a hex editor that can open the contents of the RAM, specifically for the emulator you use (nullDC, Demul etc). I suggest "HxD Hex Editor". Then search for text to change. You can change things like shops' names, scrolls' quotes, notebook entries etc. However, I bet you cannot change subtitles that way.
