alpha build 160816 was released in 16 August 2016 --> 16(year)08(month)16(day)
alpha build 160818 was released in 18 August 2016 --> 16(year)08(month)18(day)

thus, 160816 is older than the latest 160818, it's always easier to grab the latest version from the link in the OP ...

Is there any way to assign a "rapid fire" function to a button?

I am currently using an Xbox One controller via USB, and I also tested the previous 201215 build with my old Xbox 360 USB controller and it's working fine under the latest version of Windows 10 X64 without any issues.
Which version of Windows are you using? Are you using a USB Xbox 360 controller or a wireless Xbox 360 controller with the adapter? and is the issue fixed in the 221215 build?

I am attempting to use a newly purchased wired XBox 360 controller with Demul and Shenmue. Demul crashes with an error message that says "APPCRASH" as soon as I try to map the controls.

I have been playing successfully with my keyboard setup and purchased the controller yesterday. I am in Windows 8.1. The controller tests fine in the Windows setup and calibrates as expected. I also tried nulldc which also crashes when I try to use this controller.

Everything I've found tells me this should be easy! Any thoughts on what I am missing? Any ideas or help is appreciate, thanks.

It's impossible to help or make an educated guess without detailed information about the APPCRASH error.
Please post accurate information, maybe someone will have experienced the same issue.

You may already have gone through the correct steps, but just in case see if anything from this link helps: http://virtualdreamcast.com/demul-setup ... verything/

Thanks for the reply. I did go through that link.. the part where it says "Configuring your controller is simplicity itself, just click on the button you want to configure" is exactly where it crashes ;)

Here is the details from the APPCRASH error, unfortunately it is short on details. The exception code seems to point to Accessviolation?

The error above is related to an access violation (Exception code: 0xc0000005), DEMUL seems to be trying to access something that it doesn't have the permissions to. Not that it brings us closer to fixing the problem in itself.

Have you checked if the DLL plugin is locked? Right-click and check padDemul.dll properties, example:
Image

But the fact that nullDC also crashes with the same controller makes me think that the problem is either a security software that is hijacking both emulators plugins (anti-virus or sandbox) or that the drivers are not 100% correct, despite working with the setup app and maybe even working with other apps/games.

Maybe you already did this, but if not uninstall, reboot and reinstall the drivers without the controller plugged. These seem to be the most current drivers for it (Win7 seems to be also used for Win8): https://www.microsoft.com/accessories/en-us/products/gaming/xbox-360-controller-for-windows/52a-00004#techspecs-connect

I don't have a controller myself but I also think that it should be very straight forward.
Here's an example where a user was having trouble and it ended up being the drivers: http://www.emutalk.net/threads/55776-Xinput

Good luck!

Anyone ever find a fix for this?

When I leave the Come Over Guest House on Day 3, it's raining and within seconds, Demul crashes. I've tried 2 builds of Demul (Sept 2015 and August 2016), as well as all sorts of resolution/layer settings.

I am running Intel i7 4790k with MSI 1060 GPU.

Have you tried windowed instead of fullscreen?

Can you upload a save file on or close to where this happens ?

Yep here you go, its the save file thats currently saved at 8.00pm the night before day 3. When you wake up on day 3, its raining, and when i go outside the doors of the COGH, the game will crash in around 5-10 seconds. I have tried 2 different Demuls, and i am stumped. If you have any other questions, about settings, or even my NVidia CP settings then please let me know, but i need this fixed for the Twitch streams. The quality difference between GPUDX11 and GPUDX11NG is shockingly bad.

The game has played 100% flawlessly up until this point.

At the time I wrote that it crashed only in fullscreen mode, it was fine in window.
but eventually I've fixed all that by updating my video card driver, i'm on gtx760 btw, now it works fine in fullscreen.

Thanks for the response! It was the drivers and now I have it working! :) I had seen that thread you linked to and even looked at the driver but when I did not see a Windows 8.1 version I assumed mine were already more recent. Whoops! So much time on other things ... but oh well.

Funny thing, though, the reason I bought the controller in the first place is I was having trouble hitting multiple buttons at once on the keyboard and thought the controller would fix the issue.
When I try to learn double blow from the old man in the park, I hit the direction key, but it doesn't seem to register the X + A combo. If anything he tells me I punched too late.
Any thoughts on this? Thanks so much the controller is nicer to use even if I don't get this particular issue solved.

Edit: the controller was working fine, it was my timing :) . I'm 100 now what a great game thanks again.

Even in windowed unfortunately it goes nowhere. But you could be helping me out big time Radar. Can I ask if you know which Nvidia driver you are using (date or otherwise)? I had to roll back my driver to get Shenmue 1 to work, with the latest updates causing the game to crash. I can test tonight.

My current version that works is 376.19, but earlier version might work too because I updated driver couple times to the version I have now.

Cool I will check it out when I get home. Also are you using the Sept 15 Demul or a more recent build?
