I'm almost certain that if we ever do get the HD remasters, they almost certainly won't be either widescreen or have any of these post-processing effects turned on. Two things that are obviously quite easy for them to add. :(

Widescreen is almost a certainty, I don't know what you'd think otherwise. After their original batch of DC ports in 2010, everything in the 2nd wave of Sega's DC ports was widescreen. (Sonic Adventure 2, Jet Set Radio, NiGHTS into Dreams etc.) Although NiGHTS is a bad example because the original saturn game also supported widescreen.

Widescreen is one of the easiest changes for them to make in a 3D game. In Shenmue's case there is slightly more work to do due to the clipping optimizations in the game engine but in general most of the work is done by changing a few numbers. I have no concern about them omitting something that easy.

These settings are looking fantastic. I was wondering if you could release your settings ini for this? It would be really cool if more people could have access to it.

Hi guys

Espiral, you make me dream to show me shenmue like this :)

I am trying to run on Demul, but i have some question.

Fisrt of all :
- How to set up the controler ?
when i go to control i can't change the standar controller buttons, i double clic on "up" i press Shift put the new button, but it doesn't work...

In graphic configuration, I can't change the internal resolution (1 by default) and i can't use any of the shader effects ....
And even with this setting the game run poorly

I have a powerful portable PC (i7, 16go ram, GTX970M) so it should run well.

Thank you for your help, i can't wait to try shenmue in HD to wait Shenmue 3 :D

I missed that part about pressing shift+f2 to open the software somehow. Think I've got most of this down now.

I'm running ReShade_Setup_3.0.6.exe, it asks me a question about downloading some standard files, and then asks what effect files I want to install. This list doesn't have SSAO, HBO, or SGI on it. The other choices you mentioned, Tonemap, HDR, DOF are there though.

Am I missing some files?

The DOF is sort of hit and miss, things that should be clear go out of focus sometimes. I notice that there are some different versions and settings in the menu, do you have recommendations?

Speed wise, I am seeing a great framerate though with what I have active here.

Hey guys, I need some help here.
Never used Reshade before, but I think I'm following the steps correctly... yet it freezes nullDC from the start.
I'm using nullDC "Shenmue edition", downloaded latest reshade and selected "nullDC_Win32_Release.exe" as the target, also selected "Direct3D 10+". I configured nullDC PowerVR plugin to use Mode 2 for the Z-buffer.

When I start the emulator nothing happens, sometimes I'll hear the logo animation, other times I won't.
In any case, this completely freezes nullDC and it won't start.

Btw, system is Win10 x64, GPU is GF GTX 760.

Help is appreciated, thanks!

hey and also another tought...because when we are done with graphical effects maybe it would be possible to do same texture tuning like for example in the Witcher 3 mods for HD Textures??

I have played in my life a bit with photoshop, ZBrush and other graphical stuff and I am pretty sure that I am not the only one.
I have jumped quickly into google and there is a way to replace textures for NullDC:
http://retro1080p.blogspot.de/

http://www.emutalk.net/threads/53924-Dr ... ot-saturn)-texture-guide

https://code.google.com/archive/p/texmod/downloads

I will be investigating the topic further, maybe You guys have also an idea?
I think its possible and it would be then a real HD...

Edit_______________________________________________________________

First try, program can extract some textures, there is a plugin for Gimp to read the format

How are you getting on with this?

i would really love to see some HD textures in Shenmue, especially to replace some of the more lower res ones like in the tamato mart.

Is it possible to import Ryo's xbox model textures into shenmue 1 and 2 on DC? i know they were more detailed.

I never really used Reshade extensively so I might be wrong on this, but I see a fundamental problem with it, beside the fact that nobody shares their own Reshade presets used for the scrrenshots on this topic. The big problem is that the final result is mostly only good for screenshots, playing is another thing altogether.

I have achieved what I consider decent results, without pushing too much and straining my hardware to the point where Demul starts to stretch audio because of a 5 fps drop... but then I realized that I have to disable Reshade if I want to read Ryo's notes or if I want to avoid being blinded by Megumi's red dress. I guess that's the problem with something like Reshade, it's painstaking, if not outright impossible, to balance an entire tree of settings that will be applied in the same way across the board. How can I make Ryo's notebook shine less that the actual Sun? I guess I really can't, can I?! :???:

It's not really reshade, the problem is the game was not programmed for post-processing and we're just applying an overhaul graphic patch on it. Some time ago I did my own preset and I had to face your same problem, so I tried to find a good balance, so that it does look better while retaining the same Shenmue-look and fixing the notebook's problem etc. as much as possible. If you want, feel free to give it a look (note: I tested it only demul, I don't know if it looks different on other emulators):

P.S.: :D I have the preset but no screenshots. Unfortunately I don't have shenmue on my pc anymore, so I can't take screenshots right now.
P.P.S.: I don't know if it makes any difference, but I tested my preset while playing on fullscreen 640x480.

John Doom, thanks for sharing your preset! I hope more people share theirs.

I just used it for a little while because I didn't have much time, but I liked what I saw of it. Well balanced and not too heavy on my system. Thanks a lot :)

The bloom can get a bit out of hand at times and the depth of field pops in n out like like a dented tin panel, but other than that it looks quality. Top work.

Looks good! I'm not a huge fan of the depth of field effect, and obviously the UI elements are a bit tricky (that loading screen, haha) but aside from that, I really like how this looks.

Also that lucky can looked like it was glowing with lucky power :P

hey and also another tought...because when we are done with graphical effects maybe it would be possible to do same texture tuning like for example in the Witcher 3 mods for HD Textures??

I have played in my life a bit with photoshop, ZBrush and other graphical stuff and I am pretty sure that I am not the only one.
I have jumped quickly into google and there is a way to replace textures for NullDC:

http://www.emutalk.net/threads/53924-Dr ... ot-saturn)-texture-guide

https://code.google.com/archive/p/texmod/downloads

I will be investigating the topic further, maybe You guys have also an idea?
I think its possible and it would be then a real HD...

Edit_______________________________________________________________

First try, program can extract some textures, there is a plugin for Gimp to read the format

How are you getting on with this?

i would really love to see some HD textures in Shenmue, especially to replace some of the more lower res ones like in the tamato mart.

Is it possible to import Ryo's xbox model textures into shenmue 1 and 2 on DC? i know they were more detailed.

Is it possible for us now to replace textures relatively easily? Years ago I began a personal project of vectorizing/re-drawing various Shenmue textures (mainly packages and things like Goro's shirt) and I think it'd be really fun to start that up again.
