Is my Shenmue IIx broken?

Postby shieldos » Fri Jul 10, 2015 7:11 pm

I've just recently started playing Shenmue II Xbox version on my Xbox 360 and noticed some strange things that I've not noticed before.

First off going into the Golden Qr crashes the frame rate quite bad, it's almost as if everything goes into super slow motion. The other thing is that if I stay in the Wise Men's Qr for more than a few minutes the background music gets really patchy and eventually disappears entirely.

Is this a normal thing when running Shenmue IIx on a 360 or is my game disc slowly but surely dying?

That's just normal while playing it on the 360. If possible, it's best to play on an original xbox or dreamcast.

The BGM fade out can be "reset" by pausing / unpausing the game but yeah.. It's normal stinky 360 emulation of IIx. Lack of realtime building shadows was another one.

I'm pretty sure everything is missing shadows.

Ryo has one, but that's about it.

It's too bad because the Xbox version's realtime shadows were a real improvement over DC.

Oh man. Now I'm worried. I was going to play 2 on my 360 next week. Crap.

It's "playable", but if you're like me the glitches will be enough to make you not play it.

I've completed SM2x on my 360 a few days ago and the glitches are minor imo, those won't affect the gameplay experience that much. it's slightly better to play SM2x on the old Xbox/Dreamcast, but to many gamers the 360 is much more convenient to play on especially when streaming/capturing in HD ...

Yeah, they're minor things, but things like music cutting out is enough to kill it for me. Music is too big a part of why I love the games.

But if that doesn't bother you much, it's perfectly playable.

meh, I don't really have any other choice. I don't have an original xbox anymore and I have no more spots to put more consoles. I'll give it a shot I guess.

Playing through IIx on the 360 right now. The music just kind of trails off in a number of quarters and it locks up every single time I try to play Hang On. Minor annoyances in the grand scheme of things.
