Shenhua's voice change between games.

Her voice seems soft but strong in Shenmue I.. in Shenmue II (Xbox) it seems super high and almost like it's a guy trying to talk in a girl voice.

Was it a change in voice actor? Change in direction? Did anyone else notice this??

Yeah it was a Change of actress.
Xiuying voice is also different in the passport and 2.

Sadly we don't know, only actor confirmed is Corey.

It seems like according to that SegaNerds podcast, Eric Kelso and Paul Lucas appeared to be willing to comeback if they were approached but i haven't heard a thing about Shenhuas voice...

The actress who played Shenhua in the first game (Debora Rabbai) was notified last year shortly after the Kickstarter was announced. Peter contacted her and tweeted Yu Suzuki letting him know. He noticed the tweet by Peter and retweeted it. So there is very good possibility she will return to voice the character. We also managed to relay her contact information to Shibuya/Ys.net.

Just imagine it compressed and at about 22kHz. That's how I had to hear it the first time.

Same here, im just glad that Shenmue 3 is getting dubbed to begin with, alot of times with Japanese kickstarters of more niche games like Shenmue, the dev just gives up on a dub like those Visual Novel type games that get kickstarter so im also fine with any actress as long as it fits the character.

I'm hoping Yu can get Shenhua's original Japanese voice actress back, since I'll be choosing the Japanese language option for my first playthrough.

If he can't get the original Japanese voice actress for Shenhua it's no huge loss. Because Japan has a wide variety of female voice talent that's available from their animation industry. It won't be difficult to get a suitable replacement for her character.

Disc 4 is sacred to me on a personal level. Unless a replacement is a very near match then I wouldn't be happy.
That said, what can I realistically expect after 16 years? And the fact that Shenmue 3 is even happening. Beggars can't be choosers I guess!

If I could just beg for one thing, actually, I'd really like them to get a VA for Ren that sounds a little closer to the Japanese version. What a damn fine job the Japanese VA did on Ren!
