Really? Assuming you're thinking of the MAGS stage interview, you're the first one I've known to interpret it that way. He just seemed confused about the rumor and said it would be up to Sega to do something like that if they wanted to.

If he were working on a Shenmue title, ( I don't think he is) he'd probably under a strict NDA and can't say anything at all about it. What if Yu Suzuki's new game is secretly Shenmue III and he was working with Sega with an NDA.

Better to say nothing at all than lie about it. If he was working on Shenmue III and couldn't talk about it, he wouldn't have created a situation for himself where he had to answer the question.
