Phil Spencer - The Biggest Request is to Bring Back Shenmue!

PostPosted: Mon Mar 31, 2014 4:16 pm
by Henry Spencer
Phil Spencer, who has just today been appointed the head of the Xbox division had an interview with Polygon and had this to say about Shenmue:
"As the conversation with the customers today centers around the content that we have, that's the majority of my focus. And we're talking to developers about the next thing they want to be doing on Xbox."

Spencer said the biggest request he hears from Xbox owners is that gamers want Microsoft to bring back Shenmue, Sega and Yu Suzuki's unfinished action adventure epic. "The big Shenmue contingency," he said with a laugh, has definitely managed to garner his attention.

I'm going to go ahead and admit it, i was wrong about questioning whether it was worth voting in that xbox magazine poll.

This is extremely good news considering he could of mentioned any other game series. He SPECIFICALLY noted shenmue as the most requested game by fans.

As much as i don't want an xbox one, i'd get one for Shenmue III.

im telling you, the tweets on the 3rd need to be directed at Phil Spencer's account, Gio corsi, and #buildingthelist.

It needs to get to the point where these guys hear so much demand for the game, that they can't ignore it.

Well it seems it really did do something to vote in that poll. They acknowledge that there is a large demand for Shenmue and no matter what they do it's definately good publicity again. I kinda think about a situation where Sony and Microsoft are actually fighting to get the Shenmue IP and that it will resut in one of them willing to give the game a massive budget. Yeah, I'm dreaming...

I wonder what's going on inside that guy right now. Just weeks ago he told the world that Microsoft has no interest in Shenmue and now he has to come out and say, that the customers do however have a lot of that.

The big Shenmue contingency he says with a laugh.

Reminds me of when that twat from Sega talked about Shenmue being the most requested title for HD release. Sorry but with a laugh, I honestly think no one whatsoever in the gaming world wants to take Shenmue seriously. Christ even Yu isn't taking anything Shenmje seriously. I still believe he isn't trying hard enough or even at all to get backing for a Shenmue project. I honestly think he is more interested In getting backing for mobile titles and nothing more.
I passed on all these little teasing soundbytes years ago. Too many years of them to count. Yea how many years ago now did Sega say Shenmue was the most requested HD conversion from the Dream cat?? Where is it? It's all bullshit. Read into Phils comments all you want but as much as they are going to develop games that gamers want, they are going to do it as well as make money and a few thousand votes doesn't equate to a few thousand pounds of profit.

I hate when people talk about Shenmue like it sold 2 copies.

It's one of the best selling games on dreamcast !

If the shitty games (like REALLY SHITY) that david cage does make profit, Shenmue can fuck that number over. It's marketing, just put some phrases like: "one of the most awaited games in VG history" "revolutionized videogames" "like nothing you played before", pay for some good reviews and the fanbase is going to get the hype over 9000.

A LOT of people knows about Shenmue that haven't even played the games.

It will not be a killer app, but it will bring a lot of new buyers, and it will certainly be a better exclusive to show off than pretty much 80% of exclusives.

Well, it's good new none the less, at least they know what the fans want, and since the fans are the customers, it makes perfect sense to fucking make a shenmue 3. yay or nay?

After Phil Spencer's words and if he wants to prove he's a man of his words, that he's "gaming first", this is what you could to do him, pretty please:
https://twitter.com/intent/tweet?screen ... n+Xbox+One!
Let him witness the true power of the Shenmue fanbase! You can edit the tweet as you want to show your demand!
It's Phil Spencer VS Gio Corsi. Which one will #SaveShenmue?

This is cool. I'm telling you man, xbone and Shenmue 3 are a match made in heaven. Shenmue is looking for just one more chance with a big publisher, and the One is still searching for redemption in the heart of the gamer's gamer. It could be beautiful.

I really don't see why they can't make the game and use the power of the hype to creating marketing firestorm. But I think about my teenage nephews who wouldn't even have Shenmue on their radars because it isn't FPS or gore-city and most importantly rated M because they're mature enough.

I think it's all our fantasy to see MS and Sony in a bidding war. I just wonder if Sega would even care if that were possible. When it comes to Shenmue Sega just seems like that kid who has a toy but doesn't play with it but won't let anyone else play with it, meanwhile he plays with that really loved toy(Sonic) that nobody else but him wants to play with.

But we do need to focus our twitter on Spencer, Gio Corsi and #buildingthelist. I wonder if Spencer knows he just put a target on his twitter.

Earlier this Month Phil Spencer said Microsoft can't make Shenmue because Sega owns the IP.
