Suggestion: Auto-lock of threads past a certain age

If possible, auto-locking threads once they exceed a certain age could curb the necromancy that seems to frequent around here. Would help the newcomers I'd think.

Too much work but I would like it. Also depends on the topic. If something was put in place to auto lock old topics then stickies would lock.
I dunno if a mod if can be done would be smart enough to not do that

Not necessarily. Could always put in the option for Mods to "disable auto-lock" on topics, just as we all get to disable smilies n shit.

I remember I was at a forum where if a topic turned turned 2 weeks old without a new post it would lock. Thats too quick for here I think.

I think two weeks is fair enough even for sticky topic. Could they be manually unlocked later by a mod? If a sticky topic isn't popular then surely it shouldn't be a sticky?

Its a thin line, considering what this forum is dedicated to. Everything that could be talked about regarding Shenmue already has been discussed. Its because of this, i dont really get bothered by someone new joining the boards and asking something thats been asked before, like say 5 years ago. Yes it already has been discussed before, but considering Shenmue has been about for 10 odd years it has to be taken into account that all new members, or even long term members who forget things may ask something or discuss something thats already been talked about.

I dont think i would like to see a forum full of locked topics though. I would just say for us to just keep using common sense and take each new topic (or bump of an old one) on individual matters. There are different attitudes between staff members regarding new members and Shenmue topics created or bumped. I would say i would be more tolerable than Ryudo, who wouldnt think twice about murdering a newbie with his huge blue cock for asking what is it that Joy says to Ryo outside the Come Over Guest House

I dunno, Robotnik Robotosized loadsa animals to make badniks, and I thought they were a delightfully colourful addition to the Green Hill Zone. Hell, it woulda been dull without em. Can you imagine blitzing through the levels without destroying anything but TVs and walls? Instead of praise from the little animals you'd be gettin an ASBO instead.

To the OP. Some threads are bump worthy, some aren't. That alone doesn't justify locking them all, especially when there is significant info to be had. I'd rather have a thread fairly old bumped if something useful is to be posted within the same topic, instead of splitting the discussion into two. Makes for a mess.
