I don't understand the photoshop comments either, unless it's maybe people mistaking Depth of Field, Aperture photography, and shaders/bloom for photoshop.

Personally, I think that Ryo's face, in particular (all of Ryo's head, really), has a kind of "painted-on" look to it, as opposed to an actual 3D model. Really, his face almost seems like it was taken from a piece of artwork.Then again, I'm far from a expert in this sort of stuff (I'm a complete layman, really), so I could be wrong. That is the impression I get from it, though, and it seems I'm not the only one.

EDIT: Plus, the whole image has a very soft and smooth feel to it (very smooth edges and such), which seems to be very typical of bullshots.

It's probably captured on PC, so that why it's "Smooth"and jaggie-free. It looks in-line with other UE4 games this gen so it's highly unlikely that it's bullshots. The main reason why those screens are impressive in the first place is the art direction anyway.

I just wish we had deep blue skies instead of this cyan hue. But I'll take it...

The rimlighting on left of Ryo's face and lack of shadow on his collar might be what's giving a "extra-processed" vibe- though the same lighting is there on Shenhua's hat etc- not complaining, progress looks good, touch up or not.
I think the Ryo proportions and feminine issues are what's really standing out as odd in my mind. I'm not worried though. It'll come together.

Yeah, Shenmue II's contrast and colours were amazing (particularly in Guilin, with its vibrant yellows / greens and deep blue skies). I'm hoping to see that style return in Shenmue III, but as with so many modern games it appears that the devs are opting for a photographic look, with lots of light filtering and as a result, some washed out skies.

Still, I love these shots. There's no doubt Shenmue III will be a great looking game.

It amazes me the attention to detail that they have put in everything, it oozes that 90's Sega feeling every game had. It's a handcrafted work.

One thing i am happy about though is that they seemed to have given his jacket its used look again. It bothered me a bit how in previous screens ryo looked like he had just came out of zara.
