SEGA: No plans for Shenmue III

(Chapter 7 and beyond)

Postby MadeManG74 » Mon Jul 28, 2008 10:16 pm

That's just the DC fanboy talking in you. SEGA's lineup is phenomenal this year, do you even know what half of those titles are? VT3, VF5, Condemned, Total War, MADWORLD, Alpha Protocol, Infinite Space (Infinite Line), Bayonetta, Sambe de Amigo, Sonic Unleashed, Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, Phantasy Star Universe, Valykyria Chronicles all either did really good, got rave reviews, or are looking great, or all of the above. Just because SEGA doesn't make sequels to their best games, doesn't mean they can't release great games.

Thanks for another positive POV

That's pretty much all we are getting at. We wanna see the real Sega back, not the shell of a company we see now.

I'm sure many people will still enjoy SEGA's current and upcoming games, but then another many won't. Their games today just don't capture that quality that SEGA once had. Nowhere near.

They are good games, just not GREAT games.

I can see where you are coming from, Valkyria Chronicles is regarded as their best RPG since Skies, and it being praised a lot by critics. I wouldn't be surprised if that game had that 'magic'. VF5 was just as good as any other VF game so that lives up to the legacy.

Sega now owns Creative Assembly, and the Total War series is regarded as some of the best strategy games ever, and consistently get rave reviews.

I still think they make and release great games, not everything is gold, and some games are rubbish (Iron Man for example), but to ignore everything they do would be to miss out on some great games I think. Still, I don't want to start an argument or anything, just my 2 Cents.

Oh and as for SEGA's financial losses, I think thats mainly from the Arcade side of the business which is suffering in Japan, but their home releases are doing pretty well. Not sure on that, so I might be wrong.

A review score of 3.0?? Hardly surprising.

IGN gave that game a 7.5 or something. But yes I never expected that game to be much more than an Olympic Cash in.

SoA president says that Shenmue 3 is the most requested game, yet these clowns are too thick to actually make it and rake in the money. Douches.

Yeah, it makes perfect business sense not to release a game that has garnered more and more fans over the past seven years and who scream for it constantly on gaming messageboards, blogs, in emails to SEGA and even get the BBC involved.

Shenmue would make more money today for SEGA than it did when it was originally released. More gamers have been exposed to this fantastic franchise since then and it's the perfect time for SEGA to make the move.

Beijing 2008 would have been bad even if another company made it. Besides, Sega are rectified by Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games.

Sega has a problem... most of if not all of their new projects that are worth anything are on the PS3... the fact of the matter is they're going to lose money on most of if not all those projects by not making them multiplatform. So look forward to after the release of those PS3 titles... more stale Sega for years to come.

Simon Jeffery

It make you wonder how much Simon Jeffery is in the know if he thought
Yu Suzuki had left Sega plus I don’t really think Simon would know about Shenmue, Dc2 ( i doubt anyway) because it all comes from Japan so if SOJ kept it quiet then Simon wouldn't know anything anyway.

I'd say this is the best news in many years. Just the acknowledgment that they know we want Shenmue 3, that it is the most requested game AND the "right now" in "no plans right know" gives me plenty of hope!
