I think that this comparison that someone posted on Neogaf is actually pretty good:

I think it shows that they kinda nailed Ryo pretty good and that it's almost everything about lighting.

Looks nothing like Ryo to me. Looks like an ugly model that was made with better technology.

Ryo's Model looks good enough and Shenhua is allright, too.

Shenhua looks "more female" than in the Dreamcast-Area. She looks like a girl in the old days.

An I love the picture of the great Wall of China. To have a fight or quick times events on the Wall. Awesome Idea!!!

My quickly slapped-together "Shenmue 3 Ryo with Passsport hairstyle and less godawful oversaturation" pic

This is basically me right now

If you isolate Ryo, it looks ok, not really digging the art direction, but maybe ingame will make a lot more sense, specially considering the resources.

Then I look at the dojo banner and I sigh.

And Shenhua looks really generic, free indie generic, if I see it anywhere I wouldn't know it was her. Also there's something lifeless, probably the mouth/eyes.

The Dojo banner is the quality I was expecting. I don't know why a few members keep insisting that those models are worse or somehow unrealistic to expect, but whatever. No point in droning on about this.

Ryo looks quite good tbh, kind of like an upgraded self of his Dreamcast model. Shenhua on the other hand not so much, her face shape isn't like her Dreamcast model. But maybe it's the angle. Either way, they both are so much better than the models we saw at E3 and the locations are stunning. So I'm quite happy.

Nice to know Deep Silver are publishing too, they publish a lot of Sega games in Europe plus they own Saints Row now too.

Some explanations I've been kicking about for the logo.

1. Deep Silver have taken it upon themselves to design a placement logo as YSNET had decided to change the logo from the paraypus font to something else.

2. Deep Silver just drafted this up for the press release. Nothing more

3. The new logo we seen last month is going to be the logo on the backer copies only, and this Deep Silver logo is what's going to appear on the retail version.

Either way, this is technically the FOURTH logo used for Shenmue 3.

Do we have a semi-concrete timeframe for when the deepsilver talks happened ?

When comparing to early concept artworks of Shenmue 3, this definitely looks like Choubu.

But not the Choubu I was expecting. Not even in my wildest dreams!
Can you imagine this scene with real time lightning & weather effects?
That's a place I could lose myself in and just spend hours wandering in.

Absolutely gorgeous and filly with so much love for details.

It looks miles better than the Choubu we were shown last year. This is now all textured A LOT.

So for people moaning about the character models, the same will be done for them. Maybe try less over the top initial reactions.

Or maybe a fourth possibility: this is the final logo (by now), designed or approved by YsNET themselves, who waited to unveil it alongside the new models and the trailer and the publishing news.

The text of the june update (http://shenmue.link/post_en/519/?en) when they dropped the Papyrus logo didn't say it was final, only that they had decided to "update it":

Yes, Shenmue III has updated its title logo. Taking your comments into consideration, Yu Suzuki and the team gave the title logo another hard look and decided to update the logo with this design.

And I'm perfectly fine if that's it. The new logo has personality and good readability, and looks distinctively ancient and Chinese. It's main (only) sin for some is not being the original.

Thanks you so much for finding this out, makes sense that they perhaps wanted to go with a more legible font (not bad for a first attempt, it looks a bit Greek-ish atm), but I'm super glad the backers are getting the OG font, that's a great move on whoever's part that made that decision, best of both worlds woooooohhh!

The wait for next week is intensifying right now, feeling every second go pass, holy freaking smokes man! *glee*

To me the font looks similar to the yakuza battle font.
