For anybody who hasn't checked it, the pre-order page on Shenmue.link is now showing "This page is under maintenance" rather than simply redirecting to the home page like it was earlier today.

This is so weird.

My guess is that something was planned for PSX, it didn't happen, and so a planned relaunch of the PayPal page got delayed, too.

I don't think it was coincidence that the PayPal opened the first day as TGS 2015, but whatever may have been planned for TGS didn't happen. The LA dinner was planned around E3 2016, but then got delayed to December 2016... where Shenmue was still a no-show.

I'd say the Agile development process means different sections of the game are in various stages of completion, but nothing is ready to be shown to the public in Suzuki's eyes. I was surprised that Choubu and Baisha were already being worked on according to the Tokyo backers, and we know they're looking for UE4 cutscene artists/programmers. I guess he wants to go all out with a proper trailer at E3 2017 with cutscenes and everything.

It's possible. Then again, based on Cedric's recent Tweet (and I know I said we should take what he says now with a pinch of salt), it might be something else they close the year out on with new screens/vids.


They should just bite the bullet and get it back up ASAP. They're losing money if they don't.

PayPal support is closed? Whats happening...?

Their SSL certificate, used for website encryption, expired on Friday.

PayPal's API for payments needs to be able to communicate with their end over SSL in order to make a callback to notify their site when a payment is made. PayPal's systems will refuse to talk to a website with an expired or invalid SSL certificate. It will remain broken until they renew their SSL certificate.

Disclaimer: I don't know how they integrate with PayPal, but the certificate being expired is true and it's likely that this was just a timing coincidence. I'm guessing their admin who would do that probably won't take care of it until Monday.
