Translation:
The dream is it becoming reality at GDC 2013? It seems that Yu Suzuki and Mark Cerny, the "architect" of the PS4 are in discussion about ... Shenmue III!

This is a tweet from Meggan Scavio, General Manager of the GDC, which just set fire to the Internet: it swings this photo of Yu Suzuki, creator and developer of the historical saga unfinished Shenmue, alongside Mark Cerny, Developer Emeritus and "Achitecte" the PS4 and adds the comment: "Mark Cerny & Yu Suzuki talking strategy for Shenmue III. guys for real!"

Shenmue 3 in on PS4 excluded, it is possible!
Admit that we do not clearer, and the person to the source of the tweet is not anyone. In short, this is probably the beginning of a source of hope as we have seen concrete around the fantasy of one day tumble see Shenmue III. And if all this takes shape, you can of course bet on the PS4 in excluded, of course.

I believe it prevents ... This is CRAZY!

Below is the original tweet and the picture that goes with ...

Would be cool but only if they can get the rights off Sega seeing as Yu is no longer with them.

But probably someone just trying to make a a big deal out of a pic. Get a few extra re tweets and so on.

Spin the record backwards and it sounds like a whole new tune but play a record forwards and it's the same old song. Basically this is a case of someone making a big deal out of nothing

yes! YES! YYEESSSS!

Cerny Understands.

To be serious for a second, i can't help but feel it would be a good strategy for PS4. They are inherently gathering the casual market and so this would guarantee some 'hardcore' sales... being modest i would say at least 500,000 console sales right there.

This late on the only way they can really get sales out side the few original fans is to release the whole series and on as many consoles as possible.

disagree. Exclusivity can incentivise sales. HD remasters could perhaps even damage sales. Hinting that casuals must play 1 and 2 to appreciate 3 would just result in them not bothering at all. Only a few completionists (and us) would relish going through them all.

Plus, if you don't call it Shenmue III it can be marketed almost as a brand new game to a brand new market...

Edit: Plus, if Shenmue III is EVER going to happen then the deal is always going to be struck for a new console. This is when publishers are scurrying with their war chest looking for diverse IP for their portfolios. stuff like Lost Odyssey arose out of 'portfolio moneyhatting'.

"Hey guys we need a JRPG to penetrate the Japanese and enthusiast market, Lets make it Happen""We've got racing, FPS, puzzle and online covered, we need to tick all boxes around launch day" (etc etc)

Shenmue was exclusive to Dreamcast then when sega dropped out of Hardware XBox. Didn't help sales.

Multiple consoles/pc/Handhelds would be better IMO.

And you say people would not want to have to play 1 and 2 to appreciate 3, How will they fully enjoy it if at all having missed such large parts of the story? Another lame digest vid? Shenmue the movie 2?

Other wise its, Why am i in this cave at the start? Who is she? Why is the sword floating? Whats with the mirrors? Whos Nazomi that this Ryo keeps going on about and so on.

Look at ME3. Sold more copies and by the stats Bioware released the other week most players were new to the series due to all the defult options being used. And yet only around 20% of the buyers actually finished the game.
Coming into a story driving game 3 games in would be terrible.

From my own experience with Yakuza. Coming into it in game 3 was hard because of all the characters and back stories that have been belt up over the first 2 games felt like i was running into a brick wall at times.

Well Dreamcast did incentivise sales of Shenmue. If it was multiplat it might not have garnered as much fervour. As for Halo, as for Uncharted et al. It is a delicate psychology at play... people are more likely to buy expensive drinks in VIP lounges!! Closing the door to others can invigorate the sales of the few.

All your narrative points are valid but can be allayed with good production valus. As like ME3, an interactive comic for instance.

Did Cerny work on any of the Shenmue games? I remember something he said about working with Suzuki before.

As encouraging as this (kinda) sounds, I would advise people to keep in mind the controversy of not even a month ago, when the organizers of another games-related event deliberately exaggerated the significance of Yu Suzuki's words in order to create a buzz around themselves. I hope this GM of the Game Developers Conference isn't doing the same, but we really don't have much to go on.

If there was serious truth to it, would someone in her position really think the companies involved wouldn't mind her blabbing about the nature of this conversation on Twitter before anything's been finalized and announced?
