Technique Scrolls

So pumped but now let's start getting into it.

I found it odd that the first big concept of the game that Yu talked about were the scrolls....getting them through minigames and whatnot, but more surprising was the "Instant Mastery" feature. Yu said " The new scrolls will allow you to use the new skills right away in battle without practice" I feel like this is more for the casual fan who may not want to spend hours in a parking lot practicing.

Also going through the kickstarter page he reveals certain backer prizes- Advanced Technique Scroll and Arcane Technique Scroll. Thoughts?

P.S. Actual fucking Shenmue discussion and speculation?!?!?!? This is awesome.

I can see it now on forums across the Internet:

"Shenmue 3, dumbed down for the casuals. Yu sold out. Thanks Nintendo!"

Holy fucking shit, this reminds me of the bump feature. Dammit Yu, make the bump feature a stretch goal! I want to kick the shit out of random strangers on the street.

Well, in reality, we always were able to use techniques without ever practicing them...just look at the scroll and you can use it in battle. I don't see how this is any different, unless someone else interpreted this differently than me?

He means you won't have to repeat the same moves over and over and over in training to level up your mastery of a move.

Yeah, sorry for not being clear. I meant the instant mastery of the move was odd. It also struck me as odd that after 14 years the first thing yu talks about is winning scrolls from minigames.

seems like shenmue III will be set on rural china.

This means no arcade machines ??

I always loved the contemporary urban feel of shenmue, We all knew this was comming, hopefully yu will have great ideas.

I hope there is an option for classic mode, whereas these limitation removals are reinstated to better match the original game.

I enjoyed learning the moves.... I'm dusting off my memory but didn't some of them 'enhance' when you practiced them and mastered?

It was all part of the martial arts ethos so I definitely hope for a 'classic' mode to keep this intact.

Side note on the mention of arcade machines the rural setting doesn't tie in with the capsule toy machines either so I'd say we'll definitely be heading back to Hong Kong :D
