I'm glad Yu, and not Sega, is in charge of S3. And he's got a lot of guys from the original team on the project. Main Programmer, Character Designer, Music Composer, Sricpt Writer and so on. What can possibly go wrong. This is gonna be so good! O:)

Yeah, I want SEGA's suits out of this but I do feel like some of Shenmue's magic comes from old school SEGA, specially AM2.

Agreed about the main page. The Dojo used to be THE place to go for Shenmue news...can more of the fresh information be posted on the main page, with more room to view past news, like it used to be? These are exciting times, I'd rather read Shenmue news here than on Facebook or gaming sites.

Agreed. We need more news posters to post any and all relevant news to the main page and have this news tweeted as it comes out!

Adam Boyes: "We're getting behind it in a major way".

A tiny bit more clarity on Shenmue III's support.

This is pretty relevant. Suzuki considers it feasible to make the game just as substantial as the previous instalments, given they amount sufficient funding.

Asked if he expects the game’s final budget to be comparable to those of previous Shenmue games, Suzuki said he hopes it will be. Without knowing the amount of investment put in outside of Kickstarter, it’s hard to know how realistic that may be. But as of this writing on the Kickstarter campaign’s second day, it has almost crossed the $3 million mark, so Suzuki may be on his way.

Excellent news that Sony is helping out with the funding. I think this, alongside FFVII (which admittedly isn't a Sony-exclusive) and Last Guardian is Sony's attempt to tell gamers that "we're listening, we get you, we're on your side".

Though Suzuki said that despite the evolution of open world game design since Shenmue 1 and 2 shipped, he doesn’t have any plans to alter the way Shenmue 3 will play to keep up with the times, aiming for a feel similar to the original games.

The more Suzuki talks about Shenmue 3 -- the more at ease I feel about the project turning into something that I'll be happy with.

I read a interview from Yu Suzuki a few days ago where he wouldn't comment on the Sony deal or even acknowledge it. Is that still the case?

All parties have said that they cannot talka bout specific funding, due to contractual obligations. But we know YS Net, Sony, Shibuya, and the Monaco team all have a hand in the pot.

With the current hype this is getting and the records, I almost wonder if they couldn't bring in Coke for a small amount of additional funding. Doubt it'll happen, but it would be neat to see Coke machines again.

Then again, rural China and all of that, so maybe not.

Just slap a Coke sticker on every game case!

I do not get the impression that Shenmue 3 is being developed to end the series. Sony's marketing of the finished product here will likely be very valuable and crucial to making this game a success, paving the way for another sequel (yes, I'm already talking about Shenmue 4). Sony's backing will go a lot deeper than whatever contribution they provide to the development budget. We are very fortunate that they stepped up to help us out.

Thank you.

It even looks like Adam is getting emotional.

Might be worthwhile updating the topic title now that we know Suzuki is publishing the game himself?
