Do You Think We Met Enough Goals?

Of course I have to say I am damn proud of the online community for putting such spirit towards the revival of Shenmue 3. But what about the overall progress we made? I mean goals beyond $6m+ were simply never met.

List of goals:

I think the biggest concern I have is that we utterly blitzed Baisha Village, which will be an expansive and amazing area. However, we never even met the targets for Choubu or Bailu Village... I''m just concerned that upon playing the game the latter two areas will feel really bare in comparison... I really hope that is not the case.

I am really pleased we met $6m for the Advanced Free Battle, curious to what that means though - Will it just be one really well produced battle scene or advanamcents to the combat system in general?

Feel free to answer my thoughts or bring any questions you ahve about the KS goals to the table.

Well, given the poorly-run campaign+ miscommunication issues (Sony funding), $6.3M is absolutely amazing, let's be honest.

Now, with Paypal/ SlackerBacker options, as well as the additional investors that will be gained down the line from the KS world records, I'm sure we'll be able to claim some of the higher stretch goals.
(I'm feeling pretty optimistic :) )

Since we reached the 6m goal, my mind is completely free.

We'll probably unlock the magic maze once the Paypal page is up.

It will take some time but we can do it !

According to nico nico interview Baisha is where most of the new ideas Yu Suzuki has will be implemented, while the other villages will host "filler" content.

Basically we got:

1) main systems (rapport+skill tree)
2) full story events + innovative quests
3) advanced battle system
4) minimum guaranteed quantity of filler activities

Ofc not the perfect outcome, but like 65-70% of Yu's vision for the game, the only important stuff missing is the other battle improvements.

For something that was less than a dead dream 40 days ago i would say it was an amazing result.

I'd compare the Shenmue 3 Kickstarter to Shenmue 1 on Dreamcast, it's really great given the limitations of the platform and the lack of proper communication/marketing. I think a Shenmue 4 Kickstarter (if we had one) would be much improved like Shenmue II: bigger, better and more refined in every way.

I think that we'll have a really good game. I honestly didn't think that we would reach the $6 mill mark so I'm really proud of the Shenmue community for coming together on this.

As for continued funding options, does anyone know if there will be a tracker on the Shenmue III official page for how the funding is coming or do you think that it will be all behind closed doors from here on?

Unlock the magic maze implies to repeat the kickstarter achievement and only hardcore fans are going to participate this time. Considering YSnet need a fixed budget asap, I hardly believe it.

The thing is though, that they haven't specified that many specific numbers. This allow them to shift things around a bit to make the villages more balanced. They never said things like "If we don't reach reach 4M there won't be any mini-games at all". On the contrary, for example, Yu Suzuki said there will be some kind of part time job besides the one at 9M.

I'm sure they can make it feel balanced and not one awesome village and two desolate shacks pretending to be villages.

I think Peter created a topic on this a while back about the goals not being written in stone and I agree.

The goals were just something to aim for whereas the rewards were specially pledged for so it may change once the game gets further in development.

I'd just see it as a lump sum and they'll make the best game possible on that budget :)

The game will be the scale of dobuita, but I hope that is for all areas.

We'll hit more goals via PayPal so I'm not worried about it. I really wished they had the PayPal ready to go right after the campaign so we don't lose momentum, but I think people are worn out anyways.
