What will the "goal" of the game be?

I mean yeah, "find LanDi" obviously, since it's the main goal of the entire series, but beyond that?
In Shenmue 2, the main goal of the story was to find Zhu and ask him about the letter/his connection to Iwao.
Yesterday, I finished Shenmue2 again, and for the first time, I gave some serious thought to this question (because until now, I was taking it for granted that there would never be a Shenmue 3)

I think that one of the main goals of Shenmue 3 will be to find/rescue ShenHua's father. It seems to be the general consensus among fans, that LanDi arrived at the cave first (the absence of birds outside indicates that a helicopter may have landed there recently). I agree with this. However, this does raise the question: if LanDi kidnapped him, why did he leave a valuable sword just laying there? Also, when did the father find the time to write the letter?
Perhaps it was LanDi's plan to let ShenHua use the sword (since she is apparently the only one who can do so), and he is waiting in ambush just outside the cave?

By the way, this was the first time in over a decade that I was able to finish the 4th disc without feeling completely sad, depressed, and feeling like I was wasting my time. Truly a glorious feeling :D

Not really if I remember well the GDC 2014. Lan Di could already be beaten in Shenmue 3 as the three other Chi You Men leaders.

I think we will be surprised by the scale of the story. Shenmue 3 could be the first "complete" Shenmue we play as the first original Dreamcast game was finally split into two games.

one of the goals will be to REAL SPOILER
rescue Shenhua's parents from the Chi You Men

aside from that, investigate the mirrors and all the weird magical shit, and retrace Iwao's footsteps to learn of his past.

Just to note that Yu Suzuki's comment from the Niconico broadcast can be interpreted as referring more specifically to (SPOILER)
Shenhua's step-father (details in my earlier post here)

The goal in Shenmue 3 will be to win at the new mini game called "Tap that ass"

There will be a dozen donkeys running loose in Bailu Village and Ryo will have to run around and tap each one on the head before the time limit runs out.

In the 3rd game, we find out definitively what happened to Shenhua's adopted father. Acording to Yu, Lan Di kidnapped him, and is held up in a castle type structure, and when Ryo finds out about this, naturally he goes off to try to penetrate such, to rescue him.

Also evidently, the Dragon Mirror, and Lan Di are reportedly there as well(although we sort of know he gets away yet again, since 3 doesn't finish the story).

Also this event is what the infiltration quest that the KS stretch goal is hinting at. Which Yu also stated in a interview, that there will be a bunch of strategy options to handling this quest, very much in a Three Kingdoms sort of form, but in a way that will fit the Shenmue world.

Aside from that, the main objective will be to win Shenhua's heart :) This last thing is hardly a spoiler, since that's literally what the Rapport system is about.

Ugh... no Ryo's heart belongs to Nozomi NOT Shenhua!

Oh sorry, but this thread is basically asking for spoilers, Isn't it?

There's no need to make assumptions/wild guesses when legit info actually exists.

To Yokosuka: Do spoiler tags even work on these forums?

Yea, I can't really see why anyone would come into such a thread without expecting spoilers.

Ok cool.

Thank you.

I thought that many of us did not watch purposely the spoiler part and so everyone would respect the spoiler anyway. But as you said, I'm surely very wrong to complain.

Woah, I didn't know that so much had been confirmed already :D I can't watch videos this month because I'm using my phone for the Internet and I don't want to go over my internet limit... Seems like I'll have some catching up to do when I get my internet back next week :D
I don't really see this as much of a spoiler since all it does is explain what the game's plot is about... For me, a spoiler would have been something like "Shenhua's real father is ______!!!"
Anyway, the more I hear about Shenmue 3, the better it sounds :D
