Maybe sshen1127 can help provide some background about it.

I see it was mentioned in the August Kickstarter update as being a game show, CHUAPP×2015. Apparently Chuapp is a major mobile gaming news site in China.

Well that would explain why the Q&A was all about mobile gaming at least

UPDATE: I've finished adding translations of Yu Suzuki's talk for the first half, completing subtitles for the whole video.

The first half mainly covers content that has been seen before at the 2014 GDC, but it was still interesting to see this second take on it. One thing that is new is the slide explaining how the characters' moves from Virtua Fighter were mapped across to some of the main characters in Shenmue.

Just a small point I noticed during translation where the China talk differed from the one at GDC 2014:

In the part about the original plan for Shenmue, Suzuki mentions that he had at first been planning to release Shenmue as a set of two games, which would cover all 11 chapters.

I found that this is different from 2014 GDC's translation (from Mark Cerny), which said he had originally planned to release "the first 2 chapters as a single game".

I double-checked with a Japanese news report of the GDC presentation, and it turns out that this was actually a mis-translation; Suzuki did in fact say he had originally planned for two games covering the 11 chapters.

Huh, well whaddya know. Very interesting, and I suppose that makes a fair bit of sense. The project definitely grew in scale immensely as the series evolved into Shenmue.

I can confirm this as I had this conversation with Yu Suzuki 2 months ago. Shenmue's story was planned to be 2 games but since it was too huge, he couldn't get it done. Now he never mentioned the 11 chapters fitting into 2 games but clearly said that Shenmue was supposed to be 2 games only.

I'll check the video whenever I have more free time ! Thanks Switch.

Yeah, it seems at various times it changed from one game, to two games, to 11, to 3, to 7, to 5... I'm guessing we'll end up with 4-5 games.

I have to wonder if the straw huts are temporary, or just a single model copied and pasted while the others are being modeled. A lot of the Bailu Village concept art shows brick and tile homes. Then again, the Bailu Village from the cut Shenmue II content shows the straw houses, so maybe that design decision was made waaaaay, way back in S2 development.

Obviously the huts are placeholders. You guys must keep in mind the game is still in prototype stage.

I understand that they're placeholders in the sense the models probably aren't finished, I'm just wondering if they'll adhere more to the concept art of Bailu Village or stick to the design they had for the cut Shenmue II content which primarily seemed like straw houses as far as the eye could see.
