Hello Everyone,

Taking a look at end credits of Shenmue you may noticed this man’s name—Keiji Okayasu. He was the Game Director for Shenmue I, then played a big role through most of Shenmue II, and has now joined the production team for Shenmue III. We are very happy to have back this Shenmue veteran who helped deliver the goods the first time around, and look forward to him doing it again.

So, this month we would like to give an interview with Keiji to get to know a little bit more about him, and see what he hopes to accomplish as a director for Shenmue III.

We will see you all next month, and as always, if you have any questions or comments, please send us message!

Wow, a first peak at somewhat of a gameplay scene.

Seems they use a subtitle font very reminiscent of the original design. The watch also still resembles the timex design enough, even though they moved it around the screen again. There's even a talking icon in the lower right. And still the old Shenhua model from the announcement trailer.

The interview itself is nice too. Great to have this man onboard the Shenmue III team. It's getting better and better!

Great to seem more Shenmue veterans returning to work on Shenmue 3. Development is already going well but with Keiji Okayasu on board the final game is going to even better.

Shenhua's model doesn't look significantly improved from what I can tell in that shot, that aside, HNNNNNNNNG!! IT'S REAL! Shenmue 3 is REAL! That font! That Watch!

They even got another AM2 veteran! :-({|=

lol so hyped! Just completely stopped reading the sub titles the second I realised there was some gameplay footage on the big screen! Great to have Keiji back, the more people from the original 2 games the better IMO. Time to go through the video another 5 times to look at everything in the background :P

Remember guys, you can watch the video on the shenmue site for a MUCH better quality video:

Very cool update. Smart hire too!

I don't think that's the "new" Shenhua model though, seeing how her sleeves are still the wrong colour. No worries though, because the rest looks enticing from what we can see.

Higher quality version. On the screen where we see Shenhua we can see something that reads along the lines of "This part is under construction [...] made from older resources".

Guess that explains why Shenhua's model is the E3 one.

Shenhua's model has definitely been updated since then, don't worry ;)

I have a feeling these videos were shot a while ago. Still, great update, very happy to see more veterans come on board, and looks like I'll be able to play it on PC with my wired 360 controller no problem :)

Amir..... That's just a tease man. 44 days

Did anyone notice the camera pan out at 4.15??

Look over the top of his cubicle, is that the size of the dev team?!?! That's on Shenmue 1 scale (not 200 staff mind) but that's a lot bigger than we have been led to believe they even had working on the game. That's a lot of rows of cubicles!!

Tease, hahaha.

I don't think the videos were shot that long ago though, as Okayasu is wearing the same outfit throughout the video which dates itself as July 21st.

Very happy with the update and for the 'new' incorporation to the team! With every upddate I can feel that it'll be a great game with the true Shenmue essence!

Could anyone translate the japanese subtitles of this picture?

*Obligatory lighting of the Switch signal*

It's nice to see they're largely cribbing from Shenmue II's interface for dialogue and so-on. I liked how the original was one of the pioneers of minimalist and contextual game interfaces, but II seemed to make more sense overall.

I love the textures from the image in the video. They are just Shenmue all over.

The watch however looks generic. Just a circular clock. Perhaps Ryo won't have a watch at all if they can't secure a Timex agreement. Either way we know time will still be visible.
