It's a shuttlecock, just like the ones used in badminton. If you read Switch's blog, Ryo is playing a game of hanetsuki with Shenhua (similar to badminton but no net).

It's interesting how they made Shenhua wear Japanese kimono, even though she's Chinese. I guess fair enough it's a Japanese studio making the game...

Would be interesting to see how she looks in a Chinese qipao dress ;)
