Sony almost broke the internet when this long-awaited close to Yu Suzuki’s adventure trilogy was announced at E3 in 2015. Following a total of $6m raised through crowdfunding, the game is hopefully on track for release late this year, following vengeful hero Ryo Hazuki to China where he continues the hunt for his father’s killer, Lan Di. But can it really live up to all that wild expectation?

I'm pretty surprised how much attention Shenmue 3 is actually getting. It seemed like a forgotten memory for most gamers or even a non-existent memory as so many of today's gamers were simply too young to have ever played Shenmue, if even heard of it before E3 2015.

I don't anticipate that it will make the December 2017 release date goal, but I love that it's still happening.

And yeah... most media outlets are pretty clueless about Shenmue in general, but at least they had a positive spin on it.

Not to be outdone by its main competitor The Guardian, The Telegraph has also listed Shenmue III in its 40 Most Anticipated Video Games of 2017.

Once again, they didn't get the memo about this not being the final chapter in the story.
