Tantalus is good at porting games. Armature is known to port games and HD collections and on Sony systems. They would not be my choice but High Voltage Software is known to port HD collections and games in general to other platforms. Full on remake you will not get even tho I would love that. There is a few studios out there that exist on mostly porting games or HD collections of games form that era.

if Bluepoint Games is working on SotC, then we can scratch them out as the possible developers of Shenmue I and II HD. What are the possibilities that it could be an internal project within Sega? I'd assume they would still have the assets and source code in their archives somewhere.

Looking at what they've done for SotC however, I would like them to do it.

Sega could just do it internally. The Yakuza team is used to churning out a new game every year but now that Yakuza 6 ends Kiryu's story, they could take a break from the series before they start a spin-off with a new character.

Although hopefully the Yakuza team is working on Yakuza 2 Kiwami since it sounds like people would prefer that from them.

Even as an internal project, the Yakuza team wouldn't be doing the Shenmue HD port.

It's not really their area of expertise, and would be a waste when SEGA already has an established network of partners who specifically do porting work.

If we're talking surprising options for who does the job though... possibly Sumo Digital? Close relationship with SEGA, Shenmue fans in studio/management, and regarded as one of the safest pairs of hands in the gaming biz right now.

Although on that last point, Sumo's star has been rising pretty considerably over the last few years so they might be a bit too "big" for a contract job like Shenmue HD.

Any of Sega's usual porting studios should be up to the task of making Shenmue HD happen.

Personally though, I'd love to see M2 given the task. For those who don’t know, M2 is as Japanese studio that specialises in emulation. They worked on the Sega 3D classic collection for the 3DS and went to some truly insane lengths to get the most authentic experience possible. For example, M2 went into Sega's vault and recorded sound from an actual After Burner arcade cabinet for use in the 3DS version they were working on.

So, this is why I think that M2 would be ideal for Shenmue HD. They won't rest until they have authentically emulated Shenmue in all its aspects. Heck, M2 could even include the updated versions of the Sega arcade games they've already emulated, to make the You Arcade even better than the original Dreamcast version.

The Dreamcast tweet would indicate it goes beyond mobile*, unless it's just fan-baiting bullshit SEGA never intend to make good on.

*because mobile would be an awful venue for revivals of classic Dreamcast games

They're certainly taking their time with this Sega Forever viral marketing attempt. Just announce it, guys. And yeah, I'm not expecting anything other than mobile games unless they announce otherwise. All the surveys & the cassette marketing thing prove they're only looking at mobile. I have no idea how people enjoy playing full-fledged console games on their iPhones, so the idea of Dreamcast on my phone doesn't appeal to me. But I still want to see what they roll out for each platform.
