Face looks good. Body model is too over the top in my opinion. Reminds me of that WWE legends game.

Extreme bodies aren't much of a new thing in Shenmue, though... I think this guy is just exceptionally jacked. He does look a little buffer than the character art in the arms, though.

I think they've actually done a really good job translating Miyawaki's art to the 3D model.

Saying the guy is jacked is an understatement

The concept art looks human. Those forearms and biceps are indeed crazy.

This character design reminds me of that Bloodsport actor Bolo Yeung.

It is possible that this model looks a bit more stylish/"cartoony" due to the fact that the character is not placed in the game environment, texturing is not complete, and the polygon model is just not finalized. I also think that part of it is that we are shown a character model and absolutely nothing else (especially no other character models for comparison). I was trying to imagine this model inside of the environments we have already been shown. The environments are very realistic even if the colors have been exagerrated. This, however, would feel out of place in those environments. I am confident that the final tweaks to this model is all that is required to make it fit together. There is obviously a lot about this process of game creation that Im clueless about. I will need to reserve judgment until I get to play the game.

The character art style sits somewhere between plasticine and softly cartoony in my eyes. Must admit I gave the model a disapproving look upon first viewing, but I'm definitely warming to it now. The detail is excellent, the structure and composition is nice and substantial, and the look is very clean.

I just hope they are able to find the perfect medium between the character art and the environmental art, the latter of which looks very much like what we're used to from the first two games compared to the new character art style which is considerably different.

This game is getting delayed a minimum of 9 months, at this point it's just a matter of when they announce it.

And for me that is a damn pretty good sign, as it means they have enough money for more dev time which will translate into a better game. And thats all that really matters.

New character doesn't look too impressive graphically and I still can't believe we haven't even seen ryo's face. I'm guessing this game is probably two years away from release, which is troubling unless they've been funded with more than Kickstarter funds. I know this is a Shenmue fan forum so a healthy dose of optimism is expected, but there are some pretty laughable posts on here tonight...

Looking at it more, it doesn't bother me that much, and it looks weird because they're testing clipping and trying to do some weird poses.

But the skin material looks very rubbery, it makes it look like one of those old MK goro stretchy dolls.

I'm trying to find a way to say this without being rude, but you deciding against keeping this to yourself but not specifying who you mean is kinda chickenshit.

It's sub-surface scattering that's giving it that look, I believe. That may be adjusted, or react differently in an actual game environment with its own lighting conditions.
