Ah, time to go see what I missed on the Shenmue Dojo :D

...

w... wtf?

Yeeeaaah, I'll be returning to a temporary self-imposed exile, methinks. I really hate the internet, sometimes. People deal with one another in ways they never would in real life, face to face situations. And that goes for everyone (yes, EVERYONE) who took part in that whole brouhaha.

So... yeah. Break time. My social anxiety can't deal with the empathetic strain of seeing such conflict.

God bless and peace to all. Hope we all have reason to be excited, soon. :)

dude, he is still waaaay too serious and bold.
this goes completely against the original concept of the character that they are trying to craft.

i know what you are trying to get here but come on people it's not like this style doesn't exist in the originals
i mean look at this guy's face

explain to me how the approach with this design is considered far away from the new character design?

and look how big he is compared to poor Ryo

the fucking thing is HUGE!

I still think the facial expression is less cartoony, and his body proportions look realistic (outside of height, though Ryo shouldn't be very tall in reality).

I really hope this is by FAR not the final design because after two years to see this kind of character design is disappointing for me :(

Sorry mate, you sucked all the character from that model with that Photoshop.

I sincerely hope for the future of this community that there's more to this story. If you can't take criticism from your own fanbase, then good luck to when Shenmue is back in the mainstream.

It's going to be a lot rougher "out there". That's for sure.

Drama like this is everywhere though. I saw it earlier in intellectual settings. Quite funny. Basically, many people don't "grow up" and deep rooted character traits linger beneath a thin polite surface. People can't handle criticism due to a loss of self worth if the topic is a big part of their identity. Just look at history and current conflicts. Secure people and ones trained to accept opposing fact based views (scientists) handled it slightly better.

About the update. I wasn't blown away but it doesn't bother me either. It looks to be from January, it's not in the right environment/lighting, they're testing game systems etc. So it's hard to judge. Besides, we already saw the firefly scene with Shenhua before which was ok (maybe too much bloom).

I want to clarify as it seems like there's some misconception happening regarding the date of this model.

People have cited this model dates back to January. However, this is not true, the date you see in the screenshot below refers to the animation file. So they can use this file to test all models they make and it dates back to January 2017.

The model itself can be more recent than January. Of course if you look at the bottom right side of the screen, the capture is a recent one done in May 2017.

What are some good examples of UE4 games? I think that might give some of us a basis to compare this model to.

*edit*

Seems they keep a pretty comprehensive list of games using UE4 on the UE4 site:

https://wiki.unrealengine.com/Category:Games

So, Tekken 7 is using UE4. How do you guys think the models in Tekken 7 compare to this guy? Keep in mind, again, this is a WORK IN PROGRESS, so until you're being shown a trailer featuring this guy looking like this, I think you can spare to be generous to Ys Net and their team of modelers.

That video itself isn't too bad actually but the title sure is clickbait garbage.

Many will read the title as truth and not even watch the video. That's what I don't like about it. It puts the idea out there.

I agree the header is garbage, but the couple of videos I have seen have been fair.

There has been a lot of silence and only scraps given in several months, now the biggest show looms two years after its surprise announcement and they will not be present. The reasons for not being are perfectly fine and I now understand after the initial anger sting subsided.

But I postulated some time ago that too many "flutter" updates would result in questioning articles and videos making their appearance. Sad to see I'm correct, but they aren't truly lambasting it...yet.

Hopefully more tangible substance at the end of June will lend some peace of mind.

Good or bad, it's fine everybody speaks about shenmue 3, then, whenever they release the first trailer the impact will be bigger.

Different styles. Just because they're using the same engine doesn't mean they'll look similar or should be compared. You know what else is using UE4? Street Fighter V, Dragon Quest XI, Summer Lesson, Neptunia: Four Goddesses Online, Days Gone.

All of these look completely different despite being on the same engine.
