Holy shit. Beautiful. Perfect. It's starting to feel real!!!!

Also, somehow these shots just make me believe more and more that the game will not pick up in the cave, but with the arrival by boat. Not sure how that will play out but we will see.

I thought it'd be cool if the game starts with the scene in the cave, we get to the bit where Ryo and Shenhua look at each other at the end of Shenmue II... and then...

BOOM: Title card for "SHENMUE III". And then we finally leave the cave :P

I have a feeling the shots of the boat are more from the journey to Choubu rather than a re-tread of the opening of Guilin. You can see the same boat moored at Choubu's docks, but I guess it could just be a reused model.

I know right? Honestly, the vicious response this project has gotten from the gaming community since the day it was announced kind of makes me almost want to quit video games forever after Shenmue 3/4 is released.

This again...

Anyone who wants the magical elements of Shenmue "played off" will find themselves sorely disappointed.

It's no secret that the franchise had it from as early on as the Saturn era.

Looks great except the face animations. ..and finally Ryos face looks more asian ;) but the skin color...
Overall very good impression. 12-16 months still to go..so enough time to make some big changes.

I'm not going to be severely disappointed, it just wouldn't be my exact preference. I'm OK with things like the dreams we get in Shenmue 1. I just thought the dragons and stuff in Shenmue Online was a little much. Flying swords creep into that territory. If that makes sense.

That Neogaf thread is ridiculous. Now some there are trashing the environments. I don't even...

Is it supposed to be tomorrow the Ys net conference at gamescom?

They said they'd release new info and announcements apart from new clipS.

I don't mind inner chi, the energy of the earth, or even some more mystical stuff.

But that flying sword (really out of nowhere), is just too much and too in your face for a game that was mostly realistic to that point.

You can have the sword react to Shenhua, without the electricity, you can have the fire without the magical laser, and the sword floating it's just too much for my taste. You can downplay it in various ways, the sword doesn't fit, Shenhua puts the hand in it and it slides easily, the wind starts blowing inside the cave, and the torches start flaming one by one like in the original game. There's still that "something weird happened here", but you keep the mystery and don't unnecessarily break the immersion (like they did with shenhua and the flowers).

Like really, how will the game progress having somewhat a realistic approach and mundane life after you saw a magical sword flying and shooting lasers ?

After the initial reaction and all the storm that the teaser and screens made up now thinking on cold i can say that i trust Yu and his team 100000%, the fact that they were novices with Unreal engine and they built that astounding world its reassuring as hell. The mocap is also top notch, the coreography of Ryu feels real as life itself, when they work on the facial expressions and they show another teaser with it we will piss our pants.

Sega decided to make Shenmue to face Final Fantasy with an avant-garde RPG form. You hardly give a man +40 million budget for the sake of a down-to-earth revenge story. So the Chi part was likely to be the core of the story at same point.

There's plenty of literature who introduces the supernatural with proper subtlety. Chi seems to be a complex concept with solid and fascinating background. I'm sure Yu has in mind good ideas drawn from his highest passion for Chinese culture while the gameplay keeps the same base up.

All things considered, I concede that the sword part had some weirdos but I remember having no big deal at the time. Maybe we'll get some rational explanation further in the story.

I really like what I am seeing, despite of what has been told endlessly, I must say they abusing the "hero light" too much, something they already did on Dreamcast, buy with modern lighting it looks off
