New features.

(Chapter 7 and beyond)

New features.

Postby Mr.Jigen » Sun Dec 10, 2017 2:09 am

In order to lighten up the mood around here a bit and help create a bit more excitement. What do you want/think the new features/gameplay elements Yu-san has been talking about?

A few things I want:
-A new combat training system where you can train by sparring with partners, like with Fuku-san in Shenmue 1 except hopefully more fully featured.
- A larger variety of gambling games, don't get me wrong I love Shenmue II gambling I just wish there were more options.
-Cooler/more combat related Part-Time jobs. Maybe Ryo could be a security guard and have to tussle with some belligerent brutes. The return of forklifts.
- A bigger arcade with more floors and a lot more games.
- A full casino with the traditional games and obviously a return of the slot houses.

Things I think:
-New QTE's, Yu-san has been sorta hinting a change to the QTE systems, I wonder what's in store.
- New combat system, This is almost a fact they have been talking about new combat for a while.
-Improved environment interaction.
-Maintaining a good relationship with Shenhua throughout the game, choices you make will affect the dynamic of how Ryo and Shenhua get along.

Cool suggestions, but if you want to maintain the sense of authenticity for the time and place the story takes in, the arcade and casino stuff have to stay out. There are no casinos in Mainland China as gambling is illegal and I'm almost certain arcades were non existent too.

We need some suspension of disbelief, Shenmue would cease to be Shenmue without an arcade in my opinion, besides I don't think there were many Saturn's lying around in 86'. I can live without the casino I just thought it would be cool.

The Saturn was basically an Easter egg.
Anyway, I believe Suzuki mentioned before he would consider putting a few hidden arcade machines like how it was done on the Kowloon section in Shenmue 2. And I guess underground gambling parlors could be set up the same way as well.

I think it would be a bit too much to ask for more orignal Yu Suzuki games than before. I'd be surprised if there is even Hang-On or Space Harrier in there, tbh.

What's definitely gona happen is a new free battle system, a fresh take on QTE's and the Rapport System (stretch goal number 6) which is the relationship between Ryo and other characters (not just Shenhua) influencing the development of the story.

Here's something I've been wondering/am worried about; will Yu Suzuki even be able to place the arcades from Shenmue 1 and 2 in 3 since it's not being developed by Sega. I know Yu Suzuki has said he will talk to Sega about this but I seriously don't know. I really hope we can see those arcade games return.

Sega has been very gracious in licensing, Yu has made them billions of dollars and I think they are respecting that so I have no real worries on licensees.

To be honest, it doesn't really make much sense for the latest arcade games (for 1987) to be in some very remote village in China. Maybe some old pinball machines from the 50s or something.

I am assuming that during some point we leave rural China and head into a more urban area.

Maybe not outrun, hang-on and space harrier but outran, hung-on and spaced horrier is another story. Perfect for the chinese setting too.

^haha

Re: the arcade topic- I've got no problems with it. Shenmue is filled with easter eggs. A hidden arcade room replete with some OOP games would do no harm, IMO

If I'm not mistaken, Choubu is a town and has been described as quite urban. It's the place we see at the end of the trailer. If anywhere has an arcade, it'd be there.

That's kinda what I was thinking too.

ryo is also visiting major cities in this part. besides owning a sega saturn in 1986 made no sense either. the game isn't trying to be realistic this way. it needs to be fun.

My exact thoughts the game needs to be fun first, this was TLOU's biggest flaw in my opinion a game needs to be more than story and setting it wouldn't be Shenmue otherwise.
