Nintendo needs them games

Japanese weekly Wii U hardware sales have fallen below PlayStation Vita's for the first time.

Wii U sold 9633 units in Japan last week, according to number-cruncher Media Create (via NeoGAF). Vita sold 11,456 units - the handheld's highest weekly tally for some time. The bump is probably due to some stores acting early on the recently announced Japanese price drop.

That discount isn't supposed to go into effect until tomorrow, so expect Vita numbers to be higher again next week.

By comparison, PlayStation 3 sold nearly double - 18,529 - what Wii U managed. And as in other weeks, 3DS was miles ahead of everything with 74,729 sales.

Why are Wii U figures so low? As with Europe and the US, Japan also lacks new Wii U games. This week did see the launch of arcade shooter Tank! Tank! Tank!, but it could only muster 13th place.

It doesn't help Nintendo's cause that high profile Wii U games Pikmin 3, The Wonderful 101 and Wii Fit U are still without a release date.

The Wii U really doesn't have any must buy games on it at the moment and that's a reason for it suffering the way it is

Yerp, right now all the must have stuff is a ways off. It started off ok but a lot of the games coming out now aren't on it. It won't start seeing good new games till after E3 (with the exception of monster hunter)

Hope they say more about the stuff they announced a few weeks back.

Once Dragon Quest and Monster Hunter hit it will fly off the shelves in japan. The west needs a steady supply and Ubi soft fucked people out of one major release.

Asda have knocked off £50 off both models if anyone wants one.

I'll probably get one at some point. I (and my fiancee) love the wii. The only game that looks even remotely interesting though is Lego City Undercover.

Even though I'm not really a PS fan, the PS4 is enticing me more at this point...

Well thank god. Generally all around the Wii U, not just exiting games, takes along time to go in and out of menu's. Which makes me super sleepy when it's late at night. Glad nintendo wants to make these improvements, promising for the future given theirs alot more they need or should improve.

The sad thing is publishers already seem to be turning their back on the U and Ive never been a massive Nintendo fan to buy one of their consoles on their games alone.

Battlefield 4 was announced today and the U has been snubbed. Many might not like EA but their games sell and not having their support hurt the Dreamcast.

Meh same thing was said about 3DS,Vita,PSP and PS3. I don't buy doom and gloom when a console is not even a year old yet anymore. Also knowing games like X and Bayonetta 2 are on the Horizon. Not worried.
