Sonic easter egg on Disc 1?

Hi, as some of you may know, I'm currently translating Shenmue II into Spanish. Well, I have an issue related with Sonic.

In Disc 1, there's a jewelry shop attendant that makes a suspicious mention (She tries a lot trying to sell a jewel to Ryo) to a certain Emerald....



Do you guys think it's a real Sonic emerald, from any Sonic game, or it's just saying Emerald for doing a pun?

For Spanish-speakers: The contents you see on this screenshots are a rough translation and need a lot of cleaning up, I know.

I doubt this is a reference to Sonic or any kind of pun. She simply talks about emeralds and since she sells jewels that's not really something special. It's not like she talks about chaos emeralds.
