In Game Menus

Do you think they will keep with the traditional menu for Ryo's Diary and ancillaries game features

Image

Or will they go for a more dynamic type like Uncharted Series?

What style do you think they will go towards?

I don't think they'll waste budget on embellishing the notebook.

Also the original game's notebook was brand product placement, so they'll need to relicense it, along with the watch and the bag.

The notebook or the bag are not branded products.

The only branded products in the game are:

Coca-Cola (NSTC-J)
Timex
Saporro
Hitachi
Glenfiddich (unsure if they actually had the licence for this brand)

I'm honestly hoping the in-game menus stay mostly the same. Don't see any updates necessary to them.

The traditional menu is better.

I think they should keep it very similar, but they may as well update it a bit and make it more realistic. I hope they keep the general style the same, but have Ryo's hands on the notepad and show him physically looking through the notepad, with a first person view.

The bag is branded at least in some kinda way... I mentioned this in another topic. It's from Case Logic.

I hope the notebook will be more dynamic and not just on screen. I want to see Ryo flip the pages, at least like in L.A. Noire. Crouching down and looking into the bag like in The Last Of Us is not that necessary though.

Was Zippo not also a branded product?

Yup, his green backpack.

Yeah in Shenmue II. They also had ZUPPO. Maybe they can use that "brand" again if Zippo doesn't want a deal.

Wow I never knew that about the green backpack. Although I always wondered why Case Logic was listed as a brand in the credits! I just assumed it was for merchandise, with the CD case.

Oh and yep, how could I forget Zippo #-o

Maybe it is just for the CD cases they produced. There are some with Shenmue logos on them as merchandise.
But since the other brands listed there (Sumito Bank not on screen) are clearly displayed in the game itself it makes me think it has to be the bad. After all Case Logic does make quite similar bags.

But Shenmue II is a whole different story then. The bag is featured much more prominently there, yet Case Logic is not mentioned in the credits anymore. So in the end every guess could be as good as the other without further info on the cooperation.

It would be cool but I still don't like the idea because that means you have to wait one second more to open & close a simple notebook.

the bag didn't have a logo and case logic probably didn't give a shit about the 2nd game

I always wondered why they couldn't use the coke logo outside Japan and switched to Sapporo soft drinks in Shenmue II?

maybe the way it works is some companies just say they don't care if their product is in a game or movie, consider it unofficial publicity, while others require a specific deal (Coke was super specific about vending machine placement in the game, and didn't grant a license outside Japan or for the 2nd game at all.)

Timex should be grateful to Shenmue because it's the reason I bought a Timex Expedition- I think they actually benefited from being in a game, unlike seeing an Axe billboard in a first person shooter.

They don't make those watches quite like they did in the 80s anymore tho. Current Timex Expedition analog models don't have an alarm function anymore- it's only on the digital and analog/digital hybrids, which look nothing like the Shenmue watch.
