Finally something long enough and Shenmue-worthy to read until 3 comes out.

Thanks, I'm gonna tweet it to Cedric and a couple of other people to get feedback before finalising it.

phpBB [video]

I found this trailer part memorable too, so heartbreaking that was close to a spoiler.

Very good article, well documented and airy, the reading is smooth with some general culture facts. The use of your personal experience looks a relevant choice. I'm happy that I could have been useful with my chapters thread. :)

I didn't know for the 99% Gamefan, I wonder from where it came from.

I guess you already plan it for the final version or maybe medium.com is unable but your article just needs to be divided into several pages or you will crash some browsers.

An epic read! Clearly a lot of time has been put into the writing and research. Thanks for sharing it.

(I noticed a tiny typo: "motnhs").

Yeah, when I opened it again in a 2nd tab my laptop started heating up :P

For splitting it into parts I'm considering this:

Part 1: Everything up to sales of Shenmue I
Part 2: From sales of Shenmue I to the death of Shenmue Online
Part 3:Ys Net to the end

Thoughts?

Initially centred around Virtua Fighter’s Akira, Suzuki determined that it would be the first truly 3D RPG. Players would talk with fully-voiced non-playable character in the game, and there would be real-time fighting against multiple opponents.

Found one! Fantastic article though. I couldn't even get halfway through it in one sitting.

Corrected spelling mistakes pointed out and split it into four parts:

Part I: Of Dreams & Dreamcasts: https://medium.com/@MoosaviAmir/6145a484bbf1

Part II: The Death of the Dreamcast and Shenmue’s Uncertain Fate: https://medium.com/@MoosaviAmir/7415134fd9c0

Part III: The Brief Lives of Shenmue Online & Shenmue City, the Birth of Ys Net, and the Seeds of an Idea: https://medium.com/@MoosaviAmir/91b3add6dbbd

Part IV: Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt & Hope: https://medium.com/@MoosaviAmir/feb33078ef60

Will look over it again tomorrow before publishing.

While Sega stopped supporting the Dreamcast with their final release, Karous, for the console in 2007, companies such as Hucast continue to publish games for the Dreamcast to this day, and a dedicated community of indie developers take advantage of the ease of coding for the system as well as it’s lack of software protection to program games for the cult system.

Another! :)

Thanks, looking at that first sentence as well it's too stop-start, changed it to:

While Sega stopped supporting the Dreamcast with their final release for the console in 2007, Karous, companies such as Hucast continue to publish games

Made a few more changes and decided to publish them on Medium, feel free to share!
