Surely causing NPCs to stagger or fall in the first place would put Ryo in their bad books - a '-1', if you will - but apologising would negate the incident, causing it to go back to nil, no? That wouldn't work in terms of a reputation system as no reputation would be gained in the event of Ryo apologising for bumping into them; only lost if the player chooses not to apologise.
