That'd be cool to do. I'll have to try and hack Shemmue sometime(probably never).

You know when Hanhui gives Ryo a move scroll, he calls it 'a book of moves'. Maybe the book Ryo speaks of is simply a move scroll, the Stab Armour perhaps :?

I've always wondered how they did the reflections. Developers are often lazy, but the Shenmue developers clearly weren't. In vice city developed years later- in the office of Tommy's malibu club there's a mirror, with a very rough aproximation of a model boat which is reflected and a very rough reflection of the room, but no Tommy reflection. Is there a duplicate of the basement behind the mirror in Ryo's basement?

 Shenmue you have to love it we are discussing mirror reflections!!!!
It's stuff like reflections and so on that make Shenmue so great. I just love looking in that mirror, looks so real.

I remember Duke 3D had real mirrors. If you turned of clipping you could walk into the mirror and run around in this bizarro Duke universe.

if you go into Lui barber and hair salon you can get a good view of ryo in the mirrors there, or go into maeda barbershop.

Yeah there is, and you can get some nice closeups of Ryo too.

I'm disappointed: I thought the shenmue mirrors were done by creating a "reflection" effect, using the graphics engine to figure out what a reflection would look like from that angle. I didn't realise that they just built a mirror-reversed copy of the room in the 3D system and added a fake reversed Ryo to mimic the real Ryo's position. (Ever stood and watched yourself? That's when I realised Ryo shifts his weight from foot to foot while standing.)

Mabye experimenting with mirrors would add to the cost that's why the just copied the room.

Actually mirrors were a topic quite some time ago (actually one of the last times I posted) and nobody could come up with a reasonable explanation as to why the mirrors were so good in Shenmue back then. Now it all make sense. Cheers LanDc thats great work as always!

I thought that as well, so I'm equally disappointed, albeit not surprised. The graphics chip in the Dreamcast is only an old nVidia PowerVR, and while it's not exactly crap (it can run DirectX 6.1), you can't compare its capabilities with nForce (DX 8.1), for example.

I think DX7 implemented some mirror-like functionalities, not sure.
