Worker's Wharf ??

Postby Brian SII DC vs Xbox » Sat Apr 02, 2005 8:41 am

Using the great glitch LanDC found http://dynamic4.gamespy.com/~shenmuedojo/forum/viewtopic.php?p=531471#531471 i found a sign that said "Worker's Wharf" instead of "Worker's Pier". The map below the sign is also completely different, instead of just being the map for 'Worker's Pier' it shows 'Fortune's Pier', 'Queen's Street' and a greyed-out area aswell. it also says "Aberdeen Information" on the top left corner of the map.

This is how i got it: I done the glitch inside of the 'Pigeon Cafe' (Worker's Pier) using the jukebox to lock-on to then walked out of the cafe and went left to the Pigeon feed stand, the sign and map are to the right of the stand.

Ahh, yeah, I remember seeing this a long time ago through modding. I forgot about trying this with the glitch, so thanks for the reminder.

I can't remember for certain, but I think the Worker's Wharf signs appear if you go into Worker's Pier by passing the loading point from any neighboring location, like Fortune's Pier, Pigeon Cafe, Rooftop Fight, etc.

Any idea's about what the greyed-out area was/is?, another location they decided not to use or maybe they just put it on the map to fill it up.

Here's the texture I found. But unfortunately, there's no full quality version anywhere... :( (Note: I turned it 90 degrees counter clockwise)

I can't be 100% certain, but the grey area appears to represent Lucky Plaza (where you have the QTE with Ren, which leads to both of you falling). I'm not sure if this means Lucky Plaza was originally going to be a full, explorable area, or if it's just simply listed without any significant meaning. Judging from all the beta videos/screenshots, etc, there's been absolutely no indication that Lucky Plaza was going to be accessible in-game, so I personally don't feel it was ever planned to be included.

Also, the grey coloring gives me the vibe that the area is meant to be off-limits. Although it seems the spot near Beverly Hills Wharf is also grey, Beverly Hills Wharf isn't even completely included in this map. To me this bears the same significance as the listing of the inaccessible U.S. Navy Base Installation included in Shenmue I's Amihama map.

Is there any way to pass the barrier leading to that construction area at Fortune's Pier? It looks like they removed it from an earlier version where you actually had stuff back there.

It would have been nice if it was another area of the game that you could have walked around in, oh well

Yes, like i thought before it just looks like its on the map to fill it up instead of having a empty white area on it.

Thanks for finding the texture :D

Nice find, Brian SII DC vs Xbox! :D I must try this later.

BTW, the red letter in the circle on the map means "tentative."

You know, that map coincides exactly with the layout of the so-called 'beta' Aberdeen, minus the known Beverly Hills Wharf area. Having explored the 'beta' map so much I know the layout matches perfectly; bet Matt does too.

Even the high road is there. The grey area is definitely the Lucky Plaza area in the beta map.

Now a nice question: Why leave this texture live in the final map? :?:

cool find, I'm definitely going to try out this glitch later, tonight maybe. I was thinking of trying that inaccessible area of the pier too :)

Thanks i was wondering what that meant.

I guess they thought no one would see it as its only on an "out of bounds" area.

You may already know this but there's a Lucky Plaza sign still in the game on Queen's Street, it's next to a small alley and if you follow it you come to a wire fence and gate with the "No Admittance" sign on it. This looks like it could have been the entrance way to the Lucky Plaza. Using the lock-on glitch i made it to the other side of the fence and all thats there is the end of the alleyway but its not blocked off.

Another thing i did with this fun glitch was walk about in the middle of traffic on King's Road of Queen's Street:
