Omikron: the Nomad Soul

Postby TheEdge » Sat Jan 24, 2009 4:44 pm

This game came out on both PC and Dreamcast. I just got the Dreamcast version today and I was wondering if it is a game like Shenmue. I haven't opened it yet but it seems to have mixed reviews

Kenny is the biggest Omikron fan here but even he will tell you the DC game sucks ass.
I had it,it's just horrible.
It's glitchy, sluggish and the visuals are just mud.

Kenny will prob tell you what he told me..get the PC version and don't play the DC version.

But I did not follow his advise and got the DC version..now I regret it.

What the blue man said.

Take that shit, throw it in the trash compacter, and burn it. The DC version is unworthy. Torrent the PC version. You'll be better off if you did. The mixed reviews are mostly cause it tries to be too many things at once and they aren't as refined as its competitors (FPS, Puzzle, Fighter, Action-Adventure). The latter choice is what its best at (and its what you'll be doing 70% of the time anyway) and the puzzles can be HARD.

The visuals are better on the PC and you can get patches for it to enhance it a bit. Plus the DC controller is terrible for the fighting and FPS segments, you're way better off with a keyboard and mouse.

Omikron is interesting but it showed what Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy proved later. That David Cage (like Suda51) has good ideas but poor execution.

Hopefully that'll change soon :)

Dam, I got it because it was cheap and some of the reviews on Gamespot gave it a 10/10. Well we shall see. Thanks

Sure. It is a great buy and a great addition to your collection.
It's definitely a very interesting game. It just has some flaws, especially the Dreamcast version. But if it's cheap even, like you're saying, then great, man :D

It was their first game, and an ambitious one at that.

I thought the overall execution was great even though they overstuffed it.

Is it the same game as the PC version or did they change it completely during the porting process?

Keyboard and mouse are much better for this game, glitches and "hiccups" happen less often, the textures are not ugly, loading times are better, and the effects are little better (of course, customizable).

Other than that it's the exact same game.

I read the wikipedia review of Omikron and they said the word "Hiccups" as well.

The problem is I have no idea what a "hiccup" is? lol, can you tell me.

at random points it just freezes for a sec or framerate drops where it's like a slideshow only last a few sec but happens enough where I wanted to stab someone.

The DC controller is not for this game also.

Put is simply ever see angry video game nerd? Well this port brings out the angry video game nerd in all of us.

That sucks. I hate it when they screw up ports like this. It just shows how much companies care about profits compared to quality products. I may write an angry letter to Eidos for this!

Do you really think they would care? esp an angry letter about a 10 year old game? And that is if they even cared enough to read it.

Especially about a game they can care less about now.

Eidos wanted Quantic Dream to do an Omikron 2 the following year, but they said "fuck you" to them since they couldn't do it in that amount of time. So they parted ways. And since Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy hit it big, they put Omikron 2 in the backburner for more games like that. :(
