Just found the site of one of the artists who worked on Gravity Rush. Really talented environment artists. And my favorite pieces of artwork from the game were all done by him. Takeshi Oga: http://www.takeshioga.com/524159 I thought this was a really interesting piece in particular, mainly because it doesn't actually look like anything that was in the final game. Maybe it's a glimpse at something that might be in the sequel? The blue skies look like it must be at the top of the game's central pillar, a place you only get to see in the game's intro, but never get to visit during the rest of the game...
Kimihiko Fujisaka He has not done a whole lot of work but he has a very distinct style. He also likes lot's of detail. Now sometimes you can't tell some of his work is from a different game unless you knew. That's fine with me. This may sound odd but I love how he can make a character look so dark or so friendly without making them so black and white as to evil or good. He also has a thing for things flowing around a character. From chains to clothes to dragons. To me he knows how to make everything work together when the detail is so much stuff but without seeming he over did it. His art alone makes me want to try Drakengaurd despite the dark tone is a tad off setting.
Now some of this is Drakengaurd, Some of it's concept for the canned version of TLS (then called The Last World) Also he can be a bit versatile and lighten it up with some Fire Emblem art from Awakening.
So a lot of the art for the newer Ratchet and Clank games is done by a studio called Creaturebox (I think it's just two guys), and their stuff is excellent. Seriously, as a kid, this was the kind of stuff I always wished I was able to draw, back when I still had aspirations to be a comic artist. It's always a treat to see their work, but this popped up on facebook earlier and gave me a big smile. Just a simple shot of Ratchet, but there's just such an energy and stylishness behind it. I love stuff like this. I wish they'd put out an artbook of just Ratchet and Clank design work. I'd buy that up immediately.
I couldn't find any artwork from the game but I find that Journey still stands out when it comes to art and design this generation. It's even more impressive in motion though with the moving sand etc.
