Sonikku wrote: I don't agree with everything AG says, but I can sympathize with his over all sentiment somewhat. I recognize the dojo less and less lately. Not even unmodding Ryudo, which everyone felt was the shinning silver bullet to all the problems and drama of the place has panned out quite like everyone may have expected if gaming thought a few days ago was any indication. I still see some deeply fractured cracks in the community that at best seem only obscured by the total overhaul. To be fair, I feel I must give kudos to Yama for trying so hard in what he feels are all great changes to the site. Passion to make things better is commendable even if ones views cannot always be reconciled with the same vision. Stagnation can just as easily cause as much harm as the wrong change. All the more so, that he would acknowledge and address concerns from animegamer rather than brushing such sentiments under the rug.

I just feel some what of a sting when I see an iconic board like the junk forum that has always been a part of the dojo up and deleted outright. It was never the most philosophical place of discussion, but I think it helped add to the over all flavor and personality of the place. It had qualities that are harder to quantify than something one can place on a spread sheet. When I was a moderator, I likely would have agreed with all of this. My view of perfection was total order. No clutter, no disorganization. Rules always enforced to the letter in a black and white interpretation of a terms of service. It's only now in my later years that I see some what of an intangible quality that is lost in the apparent squashing of any perceivable chaos.

In any event, the dye is cast and no ones opinion can halt change forever. Ryudo's staff departure marks a polarizing in the staffs resolve to overrule any form of dissension that contrasts the greater vision and is a reality we must all come to terms with if we are to stay. I am forced to consider the possibility that perhaps this is in fact the Shenmue Dojo as it was intended to be at this stage in it's life and members like Ryudo/Animegamer and myself are just relics of a begone era that are now the odd piece out in the new order, not the elements we now find alien to ourselves. Our dojo is now dead and a new dojo for a new generation has taken it's place. The last remnants of the old republic have been swept away. Such is the will of the Force. I would call upon animegamer and ryudo at this point to let the remainder of this matter go. There is no more to be further accomplished.

Really good post Sonikku.

I can only add something to this train of thought, and that is that we are all members here which shared a few things in common when this place was in its early days. One of those common things was an age demographic maturity level. 10 years later, and i feel that one of those fractured cracks is the progression of time and polarization of maturity levels around here. There are certain people who havent progressed mentally with their age. Those who like to snigger at pictures of boobies. Those who think poop gags are the funniest thing ever. Those who still let videogames consume their lives. I am not pointing specific fingers at anyone in particular, since those examples have the ability to cross ranges of maturity, both with those who will just grow up to be 50 year old kids, and those who can appreciate it for what it is as a grown adult (which we are all fast becoming)

Some of us are hitting middle age now, and we are still here. But its quite clear that there are some who still see this place with the old banner, telling fart jokes and posting photoshopped images which really arnt funny at all, excpet maybe to a 12 year old kid. Things change. People change. The Dojo changes. You say you are relics of a bygone era? To me thats the same as living in the past. Its not 2000 anymore and we are not all playing videogames and watching anime. Some are, but there are some who also have the sensibility to understand the context of the time period we live in and can maturely discuss anything within that subject on a more mature level. Some cant, and i feel the junk forum was an anchor to the past. I rarely posted in it, even back 7-8 years ago. But when Yama came on board, he did vow to bring this place forward and he has delivered on that. The junk forum has gone yes, but its not as if it wasnt talked about before it was done so.

I've never understood the Junk forum to be honest. It must of been just a drop zone for deleted messages and arguments. Out of all the forums I've ever joined, a forum like Junk has only predominately appeared here at the Dojo or forums made by members of the Dojo. Probably just out of habit more than anything..

I'm not even having any real emotion in this as to be quite frank I have seprated myself as best I can from SD that way I can move on. I'm just posting here now out of habit but that will fade in time for my own reasons nothing to do with SD. I only wanted to point out I know nothing bad was intended but not fair to bring anyones PM's out in public. It matters not what the PM says. I'm not even talking about the changes or junk as I don't give a damn.

The PM wasn't posted with any type of malice, the thread was locked and obviously AG never got his say, so he was forced to send it to me via PM. Otherwise it obviously would have been right here. Hell, his reply was to my reply in the topic. Think of it as moving a post in here, it's not as if I publicly went and posted something that was strictly confidential.

I sent the topic to a few members that were seemingly on the fence at times, none that would obviously support one way or the other. I did that to be fair, not conjure up some great support group. I legitimately wanted a few people to read this and see where they stand, seeing as the thread was locked many may have missed out on the further discussion we were having.

Hell, want complete honesty? I sent it to you since you are friends with AG and myself, so obviously I would receive a neutral reply and one of honesty. I sent it to Mue since he criticized me greatly, but seemed to enjoy the new direction and hands on approach and eventually changed his tune. I sent it to Axm since he left and came back due to the changes, so to coincide with AG's statement of older members coming back and liking or not liking the change, I figured that was a good example right there. NO MALICE, NO PUBLIC HUMILIATION. I was the one publicly humiliated by a good amount after taking over, but instead of crying over it you take it and grow from the experience and earn peoples trust. It's actually pretty gratifying.

Hope you now understand, Blue... figured if you knew me, that much would be obvious.

That makes sense might have been better to ask but that's cool. I'm not here to stir pots anymore or drive any wedges I just had to speak how I saw the context at first. That bit right there makes more sense to me.So that seems fine enough. Also just wanrt to clarify I know you would never hurt anyone on purpose but everyone is human and can make a mistake and what I saw initially seemed like a mistake. But not one intended for harm. I was not trying to attack you or anything Big G. :)

I don't get how its malicious or revealed anything personal.

If you act like that in private and it gets exposed, you need to own up to it. Which I hope AG will.

Sorry if I came across as an ass. I just never agreed with PM's in public and I was speaking out of context in this case and for that apologize.

^That is an absolute classic scene.

But yeah, AG, you're just actin like a tit and not thinkin about this. What exactly is it about the Junk forum that you need? What is it about the Sony, Microsoft, etc. forums that you need? The majority of games out there are multi-platform now, and anything that isn't can have the topic edited to have [PS3] written at the beginning if it's exclusive to that console.

And Sonikku, you're blowin this way out of proportion. There's a massive difference between a forum community and the structural layout of said forum. The forum layout will never define the community, it's the people that will, and to suggest otherwise is pure bollocks.

However, at the same time, I must sympathise. At age 14 I had to wave goodbye to Maine Road, home of Manchester City, when we moved to the City of Manchester Stadium (now the Etihad Stadium) in 2003. I felt like the heart of our club had died, along with our former ground, and when we moved into the new one... it was dead. No atmosphere at all. I actually got into a lot of arguments and fights with out own supporters over the lack of noise they were making. I was even told to SIT DOWN. At a fucking FOOTBALL match. Happened countless times. We've come a long way since though, and it now feels like home. You just need to give it time. A lot of people hate change, but once you get used to it, you grow to love it. Not because you have to, but because you slowly and gradually make it your own. Your home. And that will happen for any one of you if you just give it time.

Another thing... I used to be on a huge Hip-Hop forum called NobodySmiling way before the Dojo, and it died because the owner got bored of Hip-Hop and changed it into a gaming forum, which ended up dying on it's arse. We recenty had a Facebook reunion of sorts, and the site's back under the guise of Still NobodySmiling. It's totally different, but none of that matters, because it's about the members, not the graphics, not the name of sub-forums, it's always the people that make it, and as long as youz still like and get on with the members, everything will be fine. So stop worrying about your "era" being gone, people are still here, the community is still here, and that's all that matters.

The gaming sub forums got about 5 topics a month at the most so it's just pointless having them separate. As for the junk forum the new mods and Yama have said that they are going to be more lenient on stuff going in General so as long as they stick to that I'm cool with it.

The junk forum was cool I had a quick look over the topics in there about a week ago. I won't miss the topics like 'What colour is your poop?' I hope we still get topics in general like when QWERTY took the piss out of Alimn meeting Yu with a story on how he met Brian Blessed.

The fact is it won't kill this place because a good amount of the people who post here don't even give a shit about the drama.

Yeah, I agree with Mitts that people are just blowing all these things slightly out of proportion. The Junk forum wasn't even very active, as Yama pointed out before he made his decision, so how can that be such a vital part of the "old" dojo? I understand that's its always been around and so people are likely to be nostalgic and fond of it, but the reality was that in 2012 it added very little to the forum. Most of the threads were either fine in General or pretty much complete wastes of bandwidth. We can still joke around and have a laugh with one another, but creating a thread called "I want to lick Kiba's manboobs" (not that you have manboobs of course, Kiba my dear fellow) just seems...well, pointless. I can tell Kiba that in Dojo chatroom of whatever, if I really wanted to.

And that's all the Junk forum ever really amounted to these days, aside from the "who would eff" topic, and I'm sure there are more than enough other places for dojoites to get their fix of soft porn on the net.

In regards to the sub-forums (especially in Gaming) I think AG is the only one I have heard not being happy about that. I mean, those sub-forums were awful. They were dead and empty, and I don't think many could be bothered to check them on a regular basis, Sony and Sega just do not need entire forums. So in practice, all it meant was that worthwhile threads would sometimes be forgotten and ignored due to being in one of those sub-sub forums (even Blue refused to post one his threads in the Sega forum, because he knew people were more likely to ignore it there). When I want post and read about gaming I don't want to have to navigate through a handful of different forums, and I don't think many others did either. Even much larger and more busy gaming forums don't bother with needless sub-sub gaming forums. It kills the posting.

If I felt something was not logical, I would have no qualms about calling out. But while I understand certain members fondness for the Dojo's more eccentric and chaotic old ways, it seems to me that Yama has made logical decisions which should benefit the majority here. It's not about forcing old regulars under the rug, it's about improving and refining a great community hangout.

Right now it looks like the dojo is actually cared for, while previously the dojo looked more like shambles of a place where people who have a needless sub-forum fetish hang out.

Just callin it as I see it.

That was good stuff. The only small gripe i had was when i wasnt too sure if the topic was a properly well done gag, or semi serious. Think there was one where you had punched your girlfriend or your mother, and i laughed. But when i read the first post i was like"nahhhhhh, he didnt punch his mother..... DID HE?????!" No lol or some ridiculous scenario, it was just like a small situation and you were in a bad mood, so you gubbed her one.
