Broken Sword Returns

Postby Tred » Sat Sep 08, 2012 11:40 am

Any of you remember a adventure game called Broken Sword? Well, the makers, Revolution Software, are trying to bring it back to it's old 2D roots. Looks interesting:

They've already made some good changes based on fan views too.

It's already made it's goal but they're now looking for extra support to reach stretch goals. The rewards are actually really good. For a 100 Dollar pledge you can get all their old games (7 in total) and get the new Broken Sword on PC/Mac/Linux AND Android phone.

For those who have never played it, I'd say give it a go. It's one of the best adventure games out there.

Enjoyed all of them. 3 was let down by loading screens/times and too much box moving.

From what I've heard, they ran into cost problems with the 3rd. That's why there ended up being so many box puzzles. They didn't plan it originally but cost cuts forced it on them. This is why their asking for funding though for the next one. They have complete control this way and don't have to bend to publishers etc..

They could have cut half the box stuff out. But the loading times were more annoying and that's saying something.

As someone who isn't too big on modern day games, the Serpent's Curse is one of the few I'm really looking forward to.

George Stobbart is the greatest video game character ever as far as I'm concerned

I'm looking forward to Broken Sword 5, although honestly, I hope Revolution doesn't listen too much to the fans. Listening to feedback and ideas is a good thing, but trying to please all the fans would be impossible, and would probably negatively impact the game.

Lady Piermont (the female guest whom helps George out in the Hotel Ubu in Broken Sword 1) seems like she may play an important role; she's in that promotional artwork with George and Nico.

Would much rather they did something as different as Beneath a Steel Sky. Broken Sword was fresh 15 years ago, but so many games have come out since then that they should really attempt something different.

At least there's Beneath a Steel Sky 2 after Broken Sword 5.

Is there? But what's the point of making a sequel out of it other than making some nostalgia bucks? I say do it as original as the original BASK and BS were, not rehashes.
Jane Jensen gave us Gray Matter, Ron Gilbert is going at it like crazy... they might not be as great as their best works, but at least they're treading new ground
