So where does the example I used of the puzzle game fit in? Its not racist by that definition, but is it ok?

It is racist, because it deals with the explicit extermination of a very specific group, by another group that clearly thought of themselves as better. Regardless of gameplay, the aesthetics are clearly expressing a very specific opinion.
Far Cry is absolutely nothing like that. The fact that the side-quests are given by these island natives is only natural; they're the people who live there. Who else would be giving out the side-missions?
The fact that those missions are boring and unimaginative never comes off as an opinion on the natives being lesser beings; it comes off as bad game design.
Pretty big difference there.

I think this is turning a bit into the "are video games art" thing. Apparently there seems to be different opinions on what is racist or not. Of course there's the academical definition, but one way or another it's clear that what to some is shocking and appalling, is inconsequent to others.

But it can't be just a matter of opinion can it?

The quality of what makes something shocking and appalling, you mean?
Yeah, I'd say that's a purely opinion-based thing. Being shocked or appalled is no different from being excited, annoyed, or tittilated. People are all different, as are their emotional reactions to various things.

A lot of those Korean shop owners here in LA are pretty paranoid, they will follow you like a criminal around their small business. I can't blame them though, they've experienced plenty of theft in their shops.

The definition of racism states that it's the quality of considering one race to be above another.

I'd personally go with definition that most respected sociologists go with, which is basically that: racism is culturally sanctioned beliefs that exist to protect the rights of the race that holds the majority of the cultural capital in a society (i.e white Americans in America) and keep the minorities subordinate. It operates at every level of the society and is inherently institutional. I believe that dehumanising racial stereotypes are absolutely essential to this end. And in my opinion, stereotyping black males as rappers with unusually massive cocks- whether you consider that to be positive or not- is dehumanising, and thus plays it's part in the racism of American society. There can be no truly positive stereotypes as far as I am concerned.

And lets also not forget, that in many cases it's not the case of the stereotype originally being based around a reality (as perfect chaos was suggesting), but rather stereotypes being created or fostered and then a certain racial demographic being encouraged to live out that stereotype (thus justifying the racism of the society).

This guy... idk, he seems to have had a concept that he obviously didn't manage to translate into the game, and now he blames everyone else for not seeing it.

I will be fair and reserve judgment for when I beat the game.
