Granted it's certain channels they create but if I have to pay 5$ just t o link a news video or something. Youtube is done. Still plenty of great free content and I don't see this doing very well. Hell who has rented a movie off youtube service? Anyone? *crickets*

They can't even give me good free service. Why am I going to pay for laggy videos. Honestly though, what kind of channels would they try monetizing. Although, One thing I would maybe pay for would be live concert footage. Which they could totally do, and people would totally pay to see. Why has no one else done this before?

I'd day most of my daily watching is on Youtube on Roku through the many Gaming channels I sub to.SOme put more professional looking vids for free than pro's do for a fee. I will never pay for YT

Vevo would probably be one of the first id , but just read that the WWE network will be one of the first to be charged a subscription for. Not surprising since they remove every video they can on Youtube with WWF/WWE material.

I guess this means giant crackdowns on copyrighted material by youtube, it happened when VEVO started to be a thing and now that there is more than just adware revenue at stake I'm guessing things will get a lot less fun

Youtube sucks anyways. This type of thing paves the way for competitors to offer the service, and increase more competitiveness in the industry. I think its a sort of good thing actually, because Youtube has gone downhill in the past 5 years to be honest.

They've had this idea for movies before,I could see this benefiting independent movies.

It's just an experiment to see if there's a potential market for something like this. They did this before with Hollywood movies and it didn't do very well.

A few months ago some metal artist offered (cheaper) tickets to see the show online since all regular tickets were sold out. I don't know if there are many who have done this before but I remember reading about a band in the 90'ies streaming some live performance. So yeah, it should be easy for Youtube actually since they are used to very heavy traffic.
