Your most overlooked system or game

Postby Bluecast » Thu Mar 28, 2013 6:21 pm

Just going to start with a console.

Turbografx16

I hold this system as high as Genesis and Super Nintendo of the 16 bit era. If it was the 3 tenners TG would be the other guy. Not as well known often forgotten but had a lot to offer. Ys,Nuetopia,CV X,the first system with a CD add on and was not used for FMV games but to have arcade ports and using it's existing power of the console to enrich the games with CD sound.
It has many overlooked gems. So many I am just now discovering a fraction of them. You could say it was the Dreamcast of the 16 bit era

Atari Jaguar. It had a lot of really shitty games, but it also had a few pretty good games from what I remember as well. Too bad it was trying to compete with the SNES and Genesis. That would have ended badly for any console.

Wild 9.

Not the best game of all time, but it was good. From the company famous for MDK and Earthworm Jim, Shiny Entertainment. It has the best character designs i've ever seen but it came out in 1998, which is probably the worst time to release a non-flagship title. So naturally, it got buried.

I'm with you Ryudo on the TG16.

It really was an innovative but overlooked system- from the CD attachment as you mentioned, plus the über-cool hu-cards also playable on the TurboExpress; to the user-selectable rapid-fire on the controllers. Perfect for all the shooters the system was blessed with.

It was also cool how the TurboExpress had a TV tuner attachment. Yup, the TG16 is easily in my top 5 fav consoles.

Sega CD. Outside of it's obvious gems, it had a ton of guilty pleasures. Namely the FMV games, I loved those. :rotflmao:

Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon

With all the love there is for 3D platformers on the Nintendo 64, I feel like this game never gets talked about. It has a great world, hilarious cast of characters, multiple playable characters with unique abilities, some really wonderful music. I wonder sometimes if this is my favorite Nintendo 64 game... I struggle between Majora's Mask, Banjo-Kazooie and this game.

In fact the whole series is often overlooked but that's pretty much because most of them aren't available in the west. Anyway... I love this game and this series :)

I was seriously just going to post this. This is my favorite platformer on the N64, and favorite adventure game after the two Zelda games.

Ah, geez, too many games to mention. I could be here all day.
I'll just start with Ranger X. Feels, to me, just about as triple-A as a 16-bit action game can be, but it's generally forgotten these days. Some of the best graphics on the Genesis/Megadrive, with one of the most intuitive control schemes for a sidescrolling action game ever. Once you get used to it at least. People tend to complain about the controls at first just because they aren't the same as every other sidescrolling shooter. But give it time, and you realize how brilliant and downright stylish it is.

both titles for the n64 are overlooked, but both are just great, the 2. title is in my opinion the best 2d platformer on the n64

I often mention this game. Elemental Gimmick Gear. Yes also released in the US. One of my fave games on the Dreamcast. One of the most overlooked games ever and the most overlooked game on Dreamcast. You can't even find the OST almost for it on YouTube. 1 freaking review as well. The hand drawn 2D graphics and a sci fi take on Zelda series. The odd part is only the boss battles are rendered in 3D. The 3D even for then was not all that great. Still it's such a great game. If you ever wanted to play a Zelda clone but with sci fi this is it.

Not saying it's the best on the system but the best non Nintendo game I played on N64 is Mischief Makers. Damn hard tho. One of those games if you know someone who beat it. Buy that man a stiff drink
