Random Shenmue Thoughts

I've noticed something interesting with the Man Mo signs that hang on the fence right across the building.
When you're inside the Yan Tin Appartments the game loads different textures for them. You can see them through the door but I managed to get a closer look after glitching out of the building.



Normally the small sign on the bottom right is so deteriorated that you can only read the first half. But here it's fully visible. I always assumed that it was a sign for Man Mo Temple, as you can just about make out the T, but it's actually for a travel agency. Now this Man Mon Travel Co. is obviously nowhere to be found and that made me think.

Maybe they intended to have this building somewhere but then they had to cut it? You know that empty alley in the South Carmain Qr. that has absolutely nothing of interest? Maybe it would've been put there.

Ryo probably burned the place to the ground during a rare instance of sleepwalking (and it was actually this that was cut from the game) as he didn't want a repeat of the runaway travel agent again .

I've been digging through the HUMANS.AFS of Shenmue II's disc 4 and found some models I've never seen.

There is this blonde american woman that was only used in What's Shenmue I think and then there's some strange old man with tiny eyes who seemingly stole Charlie's sunglasses.








There are also animal models for a cock and a rabbit. These are strange... They clip through the floor a bit and can't be locked on to. What's even stranger is that there are multiple models for each of those animals and they all look the same. Yet none of them are to be seen anywhere in the game.

I have never gotten to play What's Shenmue, so I don't recognize the American woman, but I know the guy with glasses has been found before. Not sure who he is, though.

Maybe the animals were meant for Guilin? Or maybe the chicken was meant to participate in the duck races like the penguin?

It seems fitting to have chickens in the duck race. I suspect a different use though as the ducks and the penguin aren't in the humans.afs like the other animals.

You can't fight the animals. As soon as the round starts the game goes crazy and the camera will zoom out to infinitiy.

Would it be possible to assign them a fighting system, like replace Rod's model with the cow, like you did, and give it Rod's fighting set?

I don't know hacking, you clearly are much more knowledgeable than I am at this.

I have only succeded in giving people Ryo's style by overwriting their style ID in the EN_%s portion of the 1st_read.bin. The thing is, no matter what you write there the game will load Ryo's style (and only that) for them.
I haven't found where Shenmue II stores the actual fighting and generally I'm still a pretty unexperienced noob when it comes to modding and hacking.

I guess it would require some advanced work to the game files to be able to fight the cow, even if it's just standing there with it's motion (like they are near Shenhua's house).

Something little I've noticed while doing my first complete Shenmue II file is that Jianmin will compliment you on every single move you have, except Iron Palm. He always says stuff like "nice move", and "a surprise", with other moves, but with Iron Palm, it is something like"you need more kung fu" or "Needs more training".
