Best affordable display option?

Postby Birty » Tue Jun 16, 2015 4:14 pm

Hey guys, I'm looking to replay through Shenmue I and II on my dc, now that I have an LED TV in my room would a scart cable give a good enough picture? I've no cables at all you see, so I need to buy either a basic scart or is there a good affordable VGA option? I'm a bit lost to what I should or shouldn't be paying on eBay really.

i can highly recommend the retrobit vga box. I got mine from gameseek who are a very reputable company, i've bought many things from them without any problems.
here is the link:

your tv will need a vga port, i think its also know as dsub port, or you could use a pc monitor.

rgb scart is very good, and its whats i used for years until i bought vga.
vga is the ideal way to go.

if using vga you will also need a 3.5mm audio cable which you need to buy separately.
you will also need to own a vga cable itself.

My 32' Samsung HDTV doesn't have a VGA port but honest;y after playing about with my TV settings I got the Scart display to look decent:

Sure it's a little murky, but it isn't intensely sharp and full of jaggies. I am usually very fussy about this sort of thing with my PS2 & it's component cable but I am surprised that it looks decent. Playing through Shenmue again myself now :)

If they get some in stock I can highly recommend the Kuro or Hanzo from these guys.
I have a Kuro and I've been using it for all the VGA captures of my Shenmue videos. Great little box.
