This is not Ryo's movement, this is the stock example character in UE4. If you download UE4, you can play around with it.

Great interview, I wonder what will they do with the battle system. I'm hoping something similar to the original VF-esque combat.

Thanks for that, didn't realise. Thought he was quite agile

Perhaps some kind of dynamic qte-combos for special moves?

Why are this things so hidden ??

The webpage was great content, but there's no way one could know from just looking at the kickstarter.

So from putting info together I think that the battle QTEs will not be "press this button" but actually "select the best Scroll/move for the situation at hand".

But it worries me that free battle will be scrapped :S

Sorry that gif might be somewhat misleading, as Rikitatsu pointed out, that's the Unreal Engine stock guy. Just another perspective on the trailer.

Looking at this perspective you can really see the skybox, and there doesn't seem like much in the way of proper lighting...I'm confident this will be improved.

Although we saw from the trailer that he can jump...from one rock to another :P

I like free battle too. I mean, it's basically a QTE if you don't actually fight.

I've no problem with adding jumping though. I've always wanted to do it in Shenmue. xD.

I really hope we still have Virtua Fighter style fighting.

Maybe this new QTE system would be just mixed in, but hearing that Yu Suzuki said he wanted to make it simpler for everyone kinda bugs me.

Maybe you can map your moves to the 4 buttons, and there will be a QTE stop and you have to select one ? (something like you have an evasion button, a kick button, a punch button and a throw button) and depending on the choice you get damage/do more damage ? Something like the Dou Niu fight, but instead of promting the move you have to select a "counter" scroll mapped to a button ?

Wow what a great interview!
And it's very nice having an original developer back working on Shenmue again. He knows what Shenmue is supposed to be and will always know at heart what is best for the game because he worked so hard on getting what Yu Suzuki wanted back then.

In terms of the new QTE system they are exploring, I say bring it on, just keep it atleast abit familiar and use the same sound effects if possible.

I have never messed with Unity, but I assume you can change the different character traits off the stock character right? Like walking gait, movement, and also not jumping 10 feet in the air.

While I am a bit worried that FREE battle will be watered down in this instalment (Suzuki mentioned it being a stretch goal in that PlayStation blog post), I like the idea of combining FREE and QTE in one system as the disconnect before was a bit jarring, very curious as to how they will pull this off.
