What a great article. It's simple, but raises a lot of reasons why Shenmue was so special and could be again if we help it reach its potential. I still listen to "Battle 1" every day on the way to work.

Thanks, nice article. This is the kind of stuff that Ys Net should link to on their site and Kickstarter page. Some people comment about the mentioned budget but I don't think that it matters much. The article manages to capture the feeling of the series and what made it special.

Yes this article was a great read. Thanks for posting. There's been quite a bit of Shenmue bashing since it returned to the spotlight during e3. The haters need to just kiss off! lol

Wouldn't want to speak too soon, but the tide of opinion may be shifting against those journos and bloggers attacking the Kickstarter and whinging about the project not being "indie" enough. Let's hope so!

That’s because, adjusted for inflation, the first Shenmue cost around $70 to develop.

We should have no problem surpassing that with the Kickstarter funding.

Edit : I just opened a cached text-version of the site and read it that way. The writer is also active in the comment section.

People there seem to go on again about how it's wrong to set a lower goal to start with than what you actually need. Ehm, isn't that what most projects do to avoid the risk of not getting anything at all?

Really well written article. I'm disappointed it, like so many other articles on Shenmue, pretends 2 doesn't exist as I find it equally a masterpiece as 1, but it's a nitpick.
