The Loading Screens - Kept or Removed?

Postby Sonoshee » Tue Jun 23, 2015 11:39 pm

We all love them... They were just meant to be a simple transition between one area to another, but they became so much more; pretty much a staple of the franchise, infact.

These screens, however, were just a sign of the times - when the hardware couldn't load everything up at once. Completely unlike today with the much bigger open world title's such as GTA V or Skyrim, able to load the world up around you constantly before your eyes without much or any hassle.

With the technology far more advanced from 14 years ago, how many of you believe Yu will keep these load screens in Shenmue 3? Frequent, semi-frequent, or removed entirely?

I want them to continue in the same fashion as the previous games, I love them!

Going inside/outside buildings would be nice to have that touch, just a couple of seconds, just a little fadin/out.

In "open world" it would make the game feel outdated.

I love em'. I've always though having the music play why you're waiting was a great feature. Maybe they could include it, but make the duration adjustable? (assuming the load time is faster)

Keep them, but as infrequent as possible, for example when you're loading a new region.

What everyone else said. But, I think a way to make a seamless world and keep the loading screens is to just show them when you pause the game.

I rather have seamless transitions than long ass waiting screens.

You can update them by putting the info on the bottom right hand side or something.

I always found that they should keep them in a way. Maybe have them there but a much shorter time.

I agree with this. Maybe have the information show up while your entering a location, just have it faded out a bit.

Shenmue without the legendary loading screens would be like a catholic church service without the sacrament. :D I'm right there with locke_cole. Hands off the loading screens!

Personally I think some way of splashing the information when entering an area or shop (seems silly when exiting a simple shop) would be pretty cool. So you can continue seemlessly but with the additional information on the screen.

Right-o. This would be the modern take on it, and personally, doesn't sound too bad either, as long as the font, etc. is proper and familiar.

I would like to have the world continue seamless. But they should still keep the spirit alive and show something.
Maybe like a message at the top of the screen that pop up when you enter a new area. Or maybe even the original layout right over the center of the screen, just without interrupting the game.
