Returning Characters?

Surprised nobody else made this yet, to be honest.

Let's all break it down into two questions essentially:

Which returning characters do you think we will see in Shenmue 3? And which characters do you want to see in Shenmue 3?

Yeah, I reckon Ren and Xiuying are all but guaranteed to re-appear somewhere down the line. Yu practically confirmed Ren for Shenmue III during the Twitch n'all. Unlikely as it is, I'd buzz if we got to see Yamagishi-san again. Fuckin love that guy.

I'm hoping for Guizhang, Ren and Xiuying.

They're all possible (even likely depending on how far the story goes).

I'd Nozomi and Fangmei to at least get a scene- even as a flashback or something

Yamagishi-san and his banter. "Oh. Hello Ryo." Returning voice actor demands five times the pay.

I can imagine Xiuying appearing in the next one for certain but I'm not sure about this one. I'd really like to see Ziming to be honest. I have a feeling Ziming will be the fan favorite in the long run; deep voice, inevitable battle you can't win, shoulder attacks like Akira that can knock down walls.

apart from the most obvious.

Ren - of course, he was gonna follow after him since he smelled profit in it, plus Suzuki already said if we hit 5 million we can play as him, so he's coming back, playable or not.
Gui Zhang- his leg should hopefully be all healed up soon and will be able to join up as planned.

Don't think Joy will follow, wouldn't make sense since she has no combat skills. personally I think those two are the only ones.

Xiuying might return, considering some think there is a link between her brother and the story, however that might be left for Shenmue 4 since you literally just left her behind at the end of Shenmue 2 and that would lose some of its effect if she just follows you a few days later.

Not sure why people don't think Ren would be in it given II's Kowloon ending.

I think Ren, Lan Di, Niao Sun, Xuiying and Ziming are practically guaranteed to make an appearance at some point.

The character I most want to see return is Guizhang. Just imagine Ryo, Ren and Ghuizang beating the fuck out of dozens of Chi You Men goons in some little rural chinese village. I am really hoping for a 70-man-battle 2.0 with those 3.

It's really whether or not he does return in S3. It depends on the amount of chapters we will finally get in S3 and which chapter Ren actually returns in.
Besides I'm pretty sure Yu didn't confirm Rens return, I think he just used him as an example when explaining the character system.

I think Ryo, Shenhua, Lan Di, Niao Sun, Ziming Hong and Ren are guaranteed. And to me it looks like the Shenmue Online trailer was based on Yu's actual planned story for Shenmue III and beyond, so Joy and Wong might as well make a return. If not in III, then in IV.

Edit: Oh, and who I want: Ziming! Really curious about him. Also curious to learn more about Shenhua and Lan Di. And Iwao's Past. And looking forward to seeing Ryo's character grow and mature and progress and stuff.

this is pretty much my fantasy too... I hope it happens. those three all teamed up for a huge fight would be epic. I bet Gui Zhang and Ren are constantly annoying each other with Ryo in the middle.. lol
